Yevoli In Executive Race
Assemblyman Lewis J. Yevoli
( D- Old Bethpage) has announced
that he will seek the Democratic
nomination for County
Executive. " I will actively and
vigorously campaign to win the
designation at the Democratic
convention which will be held in
early March," Yevoli said.
The Assemblyman said that his
decision to run. for County
Executive was influenced by
incumbent Ralph Caso's fiscal
irresponsibility, his arrogance in
office, and his disdain for the
people of Nassau County. " In his
seven years in office, Caso
doubled the budget, increased
property taxes 55%, and raised
the sales tax 50%," Yevoli
pointed out. He said that Caso
squandered $ 85 million in
Federal revenue sharing funds
and " that is manifest contempt
for the welfare of the people who
are struggling to stay afloat."
Yevoli pointed out that three of
Caso's last five budgets were
overspent with no concern for the
consequences. " He spent a
million dollars on a personal
security force while the security
of the people rapidly
diminished," said Yevoli. The
Assemblyman said Caso was
boss- controlled and politically
manipulated by Joseph
Margiotta, the Republican
County leader. " He should be
controlled by the people, not by
politicians. Now mat Margiotta
has moved to abandon him, Caso
claims to be his own man. That's
too little too late," Yevoli
asserted.
Francis Purcell, Hempstead
Town Supervisor and Margiotta's
current choice to run for County
Executive on the Republican line,
was also criticized by Yevoli.
" Purcell offers no change.
They'll be doing business at the
same old stand, just a new owner.
He'll do Margiotta's bidding as
Caso did. He's controlled by the
Republican boss and makes no
bones about it. It's time for
leadership in county government.
It's time we were concerned
about the people who are overtaxed,
over burdened, and
constantly under economic
seige," Yevoli declared.
State Senator John Dunne, who
is also seeking the Republican
nomination, did not escape
Yevoli's wrath. " Dunn had better
re- evaluate his position," said
Yevoli, " he has an inherent
conflict of interest that makes his
candidacy ludicrous."
Yevoli said he is determined to
bring open government to Nassau
County, " open to the public and
not to a political party." He said
he will lower taxes and raise
services. " The cost of government
is unbearably high because
of burdensome bureaucracy,
duplication of effort and
outlandish salaries fOr needless
jobs. I will consolidate services
and eliminate waste. I'll give this
