The Stale University of New York at Fartningdale, in conjunction with the Food and
Agriculture Organization (FAG) of the United Nations, will host its Fourth Annual
World Food Day Conference on Thursday, October 16,8:00am.-4:00pm., Roosevelt
Hall. The college will conduct the event as a public service in its continuing effort to
create and maintain ongoing awareness of hunger on Long Island, the nation and the
world.
Jonathon Otto of Private Agencies Collaborating Together (PACl), will deliver the
keynote address. Other conference highlights include the second annual World Food
Day Teleconference, sponsored by the National Committee for World Food Day,
which will be aired live from Washington D.C. The teleconference will link colleges
and universities nationwide allowing for thousands to participate simultaneously in
what has been titled the **National Town Meeting."
Representatives from Long Island Cares, Inc. and other leaders in the fight against
hunger such as Sandy Chapin and William Ayres will discuss important issues
relating to the alleviation of hunger. Also included in the program will be various anti-hunger
exhibits developed by local Long Island high school students as well as a
slideshow presentation created by students of the Shoreham-Wading River Middle
School.
A special feature will continue after the conference with a meeting of all persons
interested in attending a two-hour program focusing a "Long Island Partnership with
Mali."
In addition, the American Dietitic Association (ADA) announced that three
continuing education credits will begranted to professional dieticians who participate
in the National Town Meeting teleconference segment at the College.

Detegation Visit China
In October 1985, a formal agreement between Xi*an Aerotechnical Institute of the
Peoples Republic of China and Farmingdale was signed by the Presidents of both
institutions at Farmingdale. In a reciprical agreement. Dr. Cipriani scheduled a 10
day visit to Xi'an in September to formally sign the agreement with President Fei Pan
Guan.
In addition to the signing of this agreement. Dr. Cipriani and his contingency of
Professor Domenick Puglise, assistant to the President for International Programs
and Dr. Martha McCoy, college council member, had a full itinerary while in China. It
included visits to the Ministry of Health; Ministry of Aviation; Mechanical Engine-ering
College of Beijing; and the Automation Engineering College of Beijing which
has expressed a desire to formally affiliate with Farmingdale. They also visited
hospitals and dental hygiene facilities to explore possible exchange programs.
The group also travelled to Hangsou, the ornamental horticulture capital of China,
in an effort to explore possible affiliations. Finally they visited Shanghai, China's
economic free zone, to examine possible economic ties with the business community
of Long Island.

On Wednesday, November 5, at 9pm, th« Campus Activities Board will be proud
to present a private conversation with Alice Walker.
The PuliUer Prixe winning author of T h e Color Purple,*' In Search of our Mothers*
Gardens,* and ^Horses Make a Lanscape More Beautiful,* will discuss the isaties of an
artist whose work is converted to flim and her pmonal reflections on the movie, The
Color Purple.* Ms. Walker will also give a dramatic reading and presentation.
This production will be broadcast live via satellite from San Francisco to the
Roosevelt Hall Little Theatre.
As a lead in to the lecture, the Campus Activities Board film committee will feature
the movie T h e Color Purple* on Tuesday, November 4, at 3:30 pm and 8 pm in the
Roosevelt Hall Little Theatre. Both programs are free to all Farmingdale students,
facuhy, and staff with a valid I.D.
