state Passes Stricter Drinking Laws
By Ramon Rodriguez
special To The Rambler
The New York State Legislature passed a
bill on December 1, 1985, prohibiting persons
under the age of 21 from purchasing alcoholic
beverages.
The bill, in 1985, amended the Alcohol
Beverage Control Law stating that "no person
shall sell, deliver or give away or cause or permit
or procur to be sold, delivered or given away any
alcoholic beverages to any person^ actually or
apparently, under the age of nineteen years."
The Alcohol Beverage Control Law has
been amended again in 1989, and affects anyone
under the of 21. Recent amendments to the Alco-hol
Beverage Control Law have a significant
impact on campus and your life style.
The new amendments to the Alcohol Bever-age
Control Law provide:

alcoholic beverage with intent to consume the
beverage. Exceptions are provided for consump-tion

Brighton Beach Memoirs

Does that tide sound familiar? If so, you
are a cultured, well read, and intelligent person
who knows a Neil Simon play when you hear
one. If not, then you still have a chance.
Brighton Beach Memoirs by Neil Simon
will be presented by The Backstage Theatre
Company on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, this
week at Eight o'clock in the evening.
The choice of Neil Simon represents a
departure in stile and policy for "Backstage" in
more then a few ways. For one, the Autumn
production is usually a night of one-act plays.
Brighton Beach, a drama in two acts, will be
performed on three nights. "We wanted to do
something different and challenging. It came
down to a choice between Sheakespeare and
Simon. Next year we may do Sheakspeare." says
Rose Sciara, President of Backstage and pro-ducer
of Brighton Beach.
Another major change is the quality of
the sets. Set Designer/Builder Scott Schreck has
worked miracles and constructed a realistic and
functional two story house. "I've been building
sets since High School and this is by far the best
I've ever done." says Scott who worked through
the weekend to put it together and will be work-ing
the lights during the show as well.

of a one-year probationary period and a fine.

Professor Arcieri, a T.A. on campus, is
the faculty advisor for the Backstage Theatre
Company and a produced play write. " It's my
favorite play. When I was approached with thier
decision to do Simon, I jumped at the chance to
direct."
"What we really want to do is fill up the
theatre on those three nights. This paper should
come out only a day before the play so I hope alot
of people read this." says Griffin Hey wood, one
of the cast members.
