STATE OF THE CAMPUS: WHAT
PRICE MUST WE
ROOSEVELT HALL-LEFT
BY JOE PUCCIO
On the bright side of campus life we have seen twenty-five
Physical Education courses cut out of forty total. The entire
Momiary Science, Air Conditioning, and Restaurant Man-agement
curriculums have been axed with only what ap-pears
to be a profanatory study of the implications of such
cuts. This is the bright side only because things get worse.
The following are all the prices which have increased over
the past year
Tuition-increased by $400
Tuition-part time-increased $45
DORMITORffiS-A3,
C,D-Double Occupancy-increased $45
A,B,C,D-Single Occupancy-increased $50
Nassau-Suffolk (Double)-increased $45
Alumni-Memorial-increased $50
MEALPLAN-
5 Days-increased $57
7 Days-increased $39
New Health Service Fee $35
Part Time Fee $3 per credit
Parking sticker-increased $5
Total increases (For full time dorm students) - $547
In other words, this school is now receiving about
$6,000,000 more than it was last year. This may make
people say "Hey? If the school is now getting 6 million
dollars a year more than it did last year, why are ^ many
classes and programs being cut that the college WAS able to
afford last year?" The answer? - Bureaucracy. The SUNY
system is intent on two things: 1, they want a large wad of
money to get lots of nice interest on. 2, they are most likely
to restore many of the cut classes but most assuredly the res-torations
will be less than what could be covered by the new
fees. This will accompHsh two things: 1, the restoration will
make the school look good. 2, the extra money will go into
some vault were it will be spent on 'other' things.
The worst part of the whole thing is that a whole
generation of students will be passed up. That means that
students come to Farmingdale, go here for 2-3 years and
graduate, never having the chance to be exposed to many of
the things that this college would otherwise offer. These
students are the ones who are going to be hurt and the sad
truth is: In Albany, nobody ca^s.
