VOL. XXXI, No. 5 December 22, 1959
THEY SAID IT COULDN'T BE DONE!
Inter-Dorm Council Scores With County Fair; Similar Activities To Follow
But the County Fair held on
November 20 was a much big-ger
success than last year. Both
the students and faculty had an
enjoyable evening.
DeCora, Mr. and Mrs. Stahlman
and Mr. Laino^
In all, eleven prizes were
given out—for contests, games
and the most original costumes.
Dr. Medesy Takes Aim
Among the many games and
activities that took place were
the pie-eating contest, corn-on-the-
cob contest, apple dunking
and tug-of-war. There were
booths set up by the different
dorms in which students and
faculty competed for a prize
which turned out to be a stuffed
elephant. The booths, which
were the most popular were the
marriage booth and the dart
games, Dr, Medesy, an old pro
at darts, broke three ballons
with one throw and shocked both
fans and himself.
In keeping with the County
Fair spirit, straw hats were
given out at the door, (Helped
to put all in a "hick" mood)
two truckloads of corn stalks,
with calves, sixty bales of straw,
Knapp Hall was converted into a
barnyard with atmosphere, pre-requisite
for a real County Fair.
Both students and faculty turned
out in large numbers to enjoy
some of the unusual refresh-ments
and equally unusual en-tertainment.
Among the faculty
present was Dr. and Mrs.
Medesy, Dean Willenbrock, Mr.
and Mrs. Hertel, Mr. and Mrs.
The costume prizes were won by
Earle Tunicky, the French Beat-nik
Cowboy and to Ginny
Schultz, his lovely milkmaid.
Carole Conklin won the contest
of Miss Clean vs Miss Lestoil—
this all came out in the wash.
The motion pictures taken will
be shown on campus at a later
date which will be anonunced.
With enough cider, sweet pota-toes,
jelly apples and candy
corn to feed an army, every-body
ate like food was going out
of style.
With trucks, tractors and the
help of some Aggie suporters,
the Dining Hall was transform-ed
into a real barnyard in a
matter of hours. Of course, the
weeks of planning ahead of time
helped greatly to facilitate easy
set up and alleviate the usual
confusion and bedlam at the
start of such a tremendous
event. As most of us know, the
worst part of an activity of this
type is the "clean-up" after-wards.
Interdorm, however,
with the help of its members
managed to clean up the entire
Dining Hall in less than one
hour's time. Naturally, you
must be wondering how this was
done. Well, Dorm Council
must admit that its method con-stituted
a neat trick. The fel-lows
and girls lined up on either
side of the Dining Hall for a
Sadie Hawkins Dance ( so they
thought). Then, when the fel-lows
had a gleam in their eye
for a certain girl, a broom or
mop was handed to him. Both
sides were blocked by faculty
members so that there was real-ly
no escape. The girls helped
by providing moral support to
the guys who were busily put-ting
chairs on tables and sweep-ing
up.
The safety measures set up to
prevent tragedy due to straw
and other flammable materials
proved that foresight and fore-thought
can make any type of
out-of-the-ordinary stunt or
event thoroughly possible and
successful. Dorm Council's tre-mendously
successful manage-

ment of the entire affair won
for them confidence, support
and the go-ahead for another
"off beat" affair. Their next
project, on which they are now
working, will constitute a night-club
type dance with many sur-prises
and unusual events. A
semi-formal affair, it will take
place in Knapp Hall. Your
Dorm Council representative
can give you further informa-tion.

Winter Weekend
Reservations Due
Are you looking for a sure-fired
good time? Well, if you
are, why not go on Winter
Weekend. The people who went
on Winter Weekend last year
had a wonderful time.
The Weekend, this year, will
be held at Pocmont Lodge in

a total of $37. This amount
will include room and food (the
food is family-style and very
good).

have added are pretty big and
they are included in the initial
cost. There will be tobogan-ning,
a hayride, skating (skates
may be rented), skiing (skis
may be rented for 15 cents an
hour), and a dance contest,
when a King and Queen will be
chosen, as well as a snow
sculpture contest.
There will be swimming,
horseback riding, and cham-pagne.
The Lodge has a big main
house with a fire place and a
big lounge, a playroom, where
there will be ping pong, check-ers,
and dancing.
Sorry kids, no cars allowed.
There will be buses available
on Sunday morning for church.
