Complaint was made at the monthly meeting of the Merrick Hook and Lad¬ der Company of boys breaking the win¬ dows in the foundation of the building. We think that we have a fairly good set of boys in our village but evidently some of them need to be admonished to be more careful. When the mania comes on to destroy, let each begin on his own. The company voted to replace the broken glass and protect it with wire screening.
Wednesday is Flag Day. June 14th. On this day in 1777 Congress enacted: "That the flag of the 13 United States be 13 stripes, alternate red and white; that the Union be 13 stars, white in a blue field, representing a new con¬ stellation." The number of stripes was increased with the new states but restored to 13 and made unchangeable by act of Congress in 1818. In this same year it was aso enacted that upon the 4th of July following the admission of a new state a new Btar should be added. Up with your flag on Wednes¬ day I
