Mineola, April 21.—It ts announced here that Carman Plant, former county detective', under indictment charging him with receiving stolen automobiles, will, be re-tried sometime during the flrat two weeks of^the May term of Supreme Court. That term of court will start on ^ay 2.
Justice John MacCrate will preside at the May term of court and It ia quite possible that District Attorney Charlea R. Weeka will ask the Cour; to let the trial of criminal caaea pro¬ ceed thnt of the civil calendar ao that the Plant cai«e may be disposed of.
Plant was tried at the January term of court before Justice Lazansky and a jury, which last failed to agree on a verdict.
The chief witnesses for the state at the last trial were Matthew O'Neill, already serving a sentence in Sing Sing Priaonr for his part in disposing of stolen autos, and "Red" Hoffman, who ifl In the County Jnil, and who is also under Indictment for the- aame ^cts. Both men treely confess their crhnea and Implicate Plant and an Italian nameH Salerno who has also been indicted and who is expected to be tried In May.
• It is charged that Plant received a stolen car for his own use from the accused mtn and that he knew of othera they had In their possession and which had been  stolen.
HEMPSTEAD HIGH SCHOQL STEEL CONTRACT AWARDED
Hempstead', April 21.—The Board of Education last night awarded the con¬ tract for the steel for the new high achool to Vellon, Inc., of Far Rocka¬ way, the lowest of several bidders. The <*mount is approximately aeven thousand dollars.
The boferd also decided to employ a nurse full time beginning September. Por the past year or so the village has been paying one-half the salary of the visiting nurse who haa been doing achool work.

Freeport, April 21.—Mrs. Daniel J. Snllivan, of Miller avenue, while riding along Olive Boulevard Monday noon, drove her car Into a tree while trying to avoid a colltsion with another car.
Mrs. Sullivan's car was badly damag¬ ed. Mrs. SuUivan escaped Injury. She waa accompanied by a pet dog.
The car that was the indirect cause of the accident sped on ita way wttheut stopping, and it is not known %rhether the occupanta knew that a collision had taken place.

Mineola, April 21—Mayor Hylan yes¬ terday signed fhe bill which provides for the censtrurtion of a atate and OMmty highway along the line of the old Brooklyn^ pipeline from the reser¬ voir in Brooklj-n on oat throudi Nas¬ sau County.
The bill, aa paaaed by the liegi.slature, provides for sixteen foot highway to be built from money fomlshed by the state, the rity of New Vork and the county of Westchester.
This is what is known aa the Mc- /Whlnney Pipeline Bill.
It ia the bill that Aasemblyman Mc¬ Whinney inalsted -Srt introducing and paasing in the'last session of the legis¬ lature in spite of the fact that the Board of Supervisors uninamously op¬ posed the measure and even went to a hearing at Albany to voice their opposi¬ tion.
The land for the proposed new high¬ way will be ceded by the city which owna it and for which they now pay in taxes to Naasau County $80,000 a year.
In the event that the pipe line boule¬ vard la constructed into Nassau Coun¬ ty this sum In tuxes will be loat to the county l)ecauae the city ceding the property will insiat that ther oounty takf* over all the land, which is 100 feet wide and several miles long, in¬ stead of merely the sixteen feet that will bp required for highway purposes. Mr. McWhinney practically said this at the meeting of the Board of Super- vlaora when he announced it would be a fine wide Ixjulevard with trees and ahruba planted in a plaza in the centre. He probably had in mind at that time a roadway wider than sixteen feet and If the road ta wider than« sixteen feet the communities through which the highway passes will be called upon to pay for the construction ot everything over the sixteen feet provided by the state laws.
The conatruction of thia highway now into Naasau County reata on the decis¬ ion of the.State Commissioner of High¬ ways. That provision was made In the bill  by  McWhinney.
It takes aWay from the country the right to diclde which highway route they will have improved with the state and county monpy this year, investing that power in the State Commissioner o Highways.
If the city of New Tork builds the highway down to the Nassau County land, the State Commissioner of High¬ ways la almost certain to deaignate the same route leading the pipeline through within  Nassau County.
This in spite of the fact that 2,000 people in the county have signed :i petition for the improvement of tho Seaman—Lakevlew avenue route which the Board of Supervisors had promised the people would be Improved with the flrst money the state provided and which they already designated aa atate hlghwaya. _;^
The coat of this great boulevard in Naaaau County will be about two mil¬ lion dollars.

Freeport, April 21.—The Naa.sau County Mo.squito Extermination Com-1 mission made a tour of the .south side of the connty ye.sterday tor the purpo.se of seeing at flr.st hand what the field forces had done and what is to be done to pro.secute the extermination of the mo.squito during the spring and summer months.
While the work' of the comml.ssion and its men goes* on all the year, there are extra activities about this time of the year, since within a few days now mosquitoes will be on the wing, and the commission wishes to be forehanded in  the  flght against  thefn.
