The momentum, energy and skill of
the Bethpage Golden Girls & Company
captured the Number 1 Title in
Nationals at the Eastern Cheer & Dance
Competition in Myrtle Beach, SC the
last weekend in March. With extraordi-nary
precision, creative choreography
and two days of grueling competition
against teams all along the Eastern
Seaboard, Bethpage girls and Golden
Boy, Ryan Selock did their school, par-ents
and coaches proud!
On Saturday, 3/ 27/ 09 Laura
Metrache, in the Senior Division as a
Hip Hop soloist, killed the competition
and won a huge trophy as the Ail-
Around Hip Hop Champ for 2009. Jesse
Petruzzi, in the Senior Division as a
Lyrical/ Jazz soloist also performed and
achieved Nationals Honors with a
medal! Congratulations to them both!
On the first day of Competition,
Kickline dominated their rivals and
earned the Nationals Championship,
Pom won 1st Runner Up, and Hip Hop
claimed 2nd Runner Up.
On Sunday, the Golden Girls &
Company, steeped in heavy competition
kicked their way to the top and took the
Alabama Theatre's highest award: The
Grand National Championship! Pom
took 1st Runner Up, ( losing 1st Place by
5/ lOths of a point!) But the awards did-n't
stop there.
Bethpage Moms and the team were
over- the- top thrilled when Judges
announced that the team also won a tro-phy
for Best Kick Sequence, and the
Best Ail- Around Champions which was
a cumulative result combining Kickline,
Hip Hop and Pom scores. The team also
received a $ 500.00 check for their Club,
and as Nationals Champions they
received EC DA Nationals Champion
Jackets together with a bid to join
another competition in Las Vegas with
all application fees paid!
The final trophy, which all who
attended agreed, went to a most
deserved coach. Jeanna Novelli won the
most esteemed Coach Award: National
Champions Coach! Coach Novelli led
the team, together with her assistant,
Claudine Joannou, to victory in tro-phies,
experience, and, most important-ly,
fantastic memories and camaraderie
that can never be bought. The
expert leadership and productive
guidance of Coaches Novelli and
Joannou resulted in an extraordi-nary
weekend for all. The team,
and their moms, thank both coaches
from the bottom of our hearts!
Just about the only Award
Bethpage didn't take home was
" Best Fans" which was lost to
Cherry Hill, NJ... but next
year... Move over Cherry Hill!
