BETHPAGE'S NEW ATH AMAZING!!!
Pictures really do not do justice to the new Bethpage High School turffield, home of the Golden Eagles. " You gotta ' see it to believe it!"
On the day of its first football game of the season, Bethpage High School also
officially celebrated the opening of its new athletic complex, thanks to a community
development grant from, the Town of Oyster Bay. School District officials and local
dignitaries, including Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor John Venditto and Nassau
County Legislator Edward Mangano, joined a ceremony commemorating the com-pletion
of the world- class field and facilities.
The stadium upgrade included a new multi- use turf field, track surface, lighting
system, scoreboard, media booth and new visitor bleachers. Following the end of the
year, home bleachers will be upgraded and a new refreshment hut will be installed.
The new field, which will continue to be named for New York State's all- time
winningest football coach, Howie Vogts, replaced a previous grass surface that had
endured years of use from Bethpage athletes, including the 16- time County
Champion Golden Eagle Football Team. When not being played on by Bethpage
student athletes, it will serve the community and be used by PAL teams and other
organizations.
The event included remarks from Bethpage School District Superintendent of
Schools Mr. Terrence Clark, Director of Physical Education, Health, and Ath'
Mr. John Franchi, Board of Education President Mr. Thomas Fros ^ and Former
Superintendent Dr. Richard Marsh, who carried out much oi'thc groundwoi k for thi
initiative prior to his retirement. All expressed gratitude to the Town and enthusiasm
for the new field.
" Bethpage is a leader in Century academics, and now we have a
Century athletic complex to complement it," stated Mr. Clark. " Thank you
Supervisor Venditto for your vision and leadership." Mr. Clark continued by praising
