Prepares Students for College
Bethpage High School's Guidance Department held a
Grade 12 Parent Meeting to help prepare seniors and their
families as they apply to colleges and make decisions that
will play a role in determining their futures. The session fea-tured
two guest speakers, SUNY Farmingdale Director of
Admissions Jim Hall, and Hofstra University Dean of
Admissions Jessica Eads.
District Guidance Director Mrs. Pamela Puglisi intro-duced
each of the presenters. Mr. Hall discussed how to apply
for financial aid and scholarships, as well as developing a
plan for finding the right educational institution. He described
the types of scholarships available and opportunities they pro-vide,
and the steps students must take in their pursuit.
" Success requires sacrifice, and you have to work for it," he
said.
Ms. Eads focused on deciding which schools to apply to
and how to go about researching them online and through the
guidance department. She emphasized how students can
improve their chances of acceptance, such as sending their
highest SAT/ ACT scores, getting to know admissions offi-cials,
and attending open houses. " It is in your best interest to
meet the person who is going to be reviewing your applica-tion,"
she advised.
Bethpage High School recently began a series of col-lege
fairs to further prepare students as they explore the edu-cational
opportunities that are available..
