Nov. Community Vote on
Capital Projects
Approval will improve core school facilities for all
students at no cost to taxpayers
On November 17, 2009, voters in the Bethpage School District will be
asked to vote on a proposition to use existing Capital Reserve monies to reno-vate
core school facilities. Since monies to support these projects have already
been allocated in the District's Capital Reserve Fund, approval of the proposi-tion
will not raise taxes.
The Nov. 17th proposition supports the long- term preservation of the
District's school buildings by using $ 5,167,875 in the Capital Reserve Fund to
conduct the following school building maintenance and facility upgrades:
• JFK Auditorium Renovation
• JFK Locker Room Renovation
• BHS - 3 Boiler Replacements
• BHS Tennis Court Resurfacing
• BHS Hallway Locker Replacement
• CBS & JFK Gymnasium Bleacher Replacement
• CBS Public Address System Replacement
• CC, KL, and BHS Bathroom Renovations
• BHS Elevator Replacement ( 1)
• CC, CBS, KL, JFK, and BHS HVAC Upgrades
• BHS and CBS Scraping/ Painting of Steel Joists
• JFK Gymnasium Folding- Partition Replacement
• JFK Ceiling Replacement/ Asbestos Abatement
• CBS and CC New Interior Doors ( non- classroom)
• KL, CBS, JFK, and BHS Masonry Repair
These projects are eligible for New York State Building aid. Under the cur-rent
building aid formula, New York State would pay for 39% of the work
authorized by voters.
Voter approval is required in order to use these Capital Reserve Funds and
capitalize of this state aid. Voting will take place in the Bethpage High School
Gymnasium ( 10 Cherry Ave., Bethpage) from 12noon- 9pm.
If this proposition is approved, the District will also save money on future
utility bills by replacing old boilers at Bethpage High School with new, energy-efficient
systems.
New Playground at Schwarting
For eleiiieiUary students, recess is often one of their favorite parts of the school
day. Schwarting Elementary School students were very excited this fall when
the school's new playground, which the town donated, was installed on the
school grounds. The new equipment is sure to provide countless hours ofenter-taiiunciit
for the students. Pictured here are Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor
John Vcnditto, who donated the playground etpiipment to the school, PTA

Kramer Lane fifth graders donned their doctor's scrubs when they volun-teered
as " little doctors" for the school- wide blood drive in October. The children
served refreshments to blood donors, and PTA members organized raffles. The
drive was a great success and a total of 33 pints of blood were donated. Photos:
