thank you to all my family and friends. This has been a truly his-toric
election. Seven months ago we set out to do what so many
deemed impossible. Many viewed our odds of winning extremely
low and to say that we were the underdogs is the understatement of
the year. But, WE DID IT, and I say " WE" because this election
was an old fashioned grassroots effort that was successful because
of the help and hard work of so many volunteers and supporters.
I really am at a loss for words when trying to explain just how
appreciative I am of all the support, encouragement, advice and
assistance I received during this election. It has been humbling and
overwhelming. Whether you came into our campaign headquarters
to stuff envelopes, make phone calls, create handmade magnetic
bumper stickers or even light up billboards, your hard work was so
appreciated. To those whya pQunded the pavement with me walking
throughout this county or gave up time with their families to attend
fairs and festivals, I say thank you so much. To our dedicated staff
who came into our office everyday to volunteer, to those who made
signs, put up signs, handed out literature or made sure we had
paper towels, we could never have done it without you. And to
those high school and college students who gave up their time to
get involved and lend a hand I tip my hat to each and every one of
you.
Many years ago, we in this community, faced some difficult
problems. Tough problems which we had to address. We, as a com-munity,
worked together to make a difference. We discussed our
obstacles, shared our ideas, voiced our concerns and WE DID IT !
We found solutions, made some changes and accomplished so
much. I believe we can do the same in Nassau County. During this
campaign I had the privilege of meeting so many residents from all
across the county. While each town or village has their own con-ccrns
what became apparent to me was the one thing that we all
share. We all want affordable places to live and raise our families.
We want to feel safe in our homes and in our streets. We want good
schools to give our children the future they deserve, clean places to
spend weekends recreating with our family and friends and we all
want to work and be productive members of our community. Those
common interests are what bind us together and it is those interests
and desires that we need to focus on when trying to solve the prob-lems
we are now facing in Nassau County. We need to work
together to achieve our common goals and I believe with all my
heart we will.
It has been my true honor and privilege to serve as your
Legislator for the past 14 years and I am eager and equally honored
to now serve as County Executive. Your support throughout the
years has been inspirational and a true blessing.
So to everyone who put my lawn sign in front of their home,
placed a bumper sticker on their car, called our office to share an
idea, and of course, all those who trusted me with their vote, I say
thank you so much. You all have given me a wonderful opportuni-ty
and together we will make a difference in our County. I am so eager and
excited to get started.... together.
I would also like to extend thanks to the Honorable Thomas Suozzi and his
family for years of dedication and service to Nassau County.
I would be remiss if I did not personally thank my family for sticking with
me every step of the way and never, ever saying never. I love you all more than
you will ever know.
In closing, thank you all from the bottom of my heart for giving me this
chance. I will not let you down. I wish everyone a happy and healthy holiday
season filled with laughter and smiles and a New Year filled with all the joy
your hearts can hold.
