Assessment Grievance Period Set
Nassau County taxpayers whodisagree with their tentative
1982 property tax assessments may file formal protests
during the period from May 1 to May 19,1981, Abe Seldin,
Chairman of the Nassau County Board of Assessors-announced
today. To better serve taxpayers wishing to file
grievances, Board of Assessors employees will establish
temporary satellite officer in each of Nassau's three
townships and two cities during the tax grievance period.
Property owners who disagree with their assessments may
file a protest form with the Board of Assessors, either in
Mineola or through the board's representatives located in the
towns and cities during the grievance period. Protests are
then forwarded to the independent Board of Assessment
Review, where they are analyzed. A property owner also has
the right to request an in-person hearing before the Board of
Assessment Review, at which he or she may present the facts
on which the protest is based. The review board is
empowered to order the Board of Assessors to reduce
assessments where warranted.
By state law, all protest forms must be filed between May 1
and May 19, Seldin cautioned, adding that copies of the
tentative 1982 assessment rolls will be open for inspection at
each of the five locations during the grievance period, and
that property owners may examine their property record
cards at the Board of Assessors' main office, 240 Old Country'
Road, Mineola.
Locations where protests may be filed are:
For properties in the Town of Hempstead - Board of
Assessors Office, 240 Old Country Road, Mineola, New York
Phone (516) 535-2311/2790.
For properties in the Town of Oyster Bay - Cantiague Park,

-Phone (516) 935-3501.
Offices will be staffed with Board of Assessors
representatives from 9:00 a.m. to4:30 p.m. Monday through
Friday during the grievance period. They will also be opened
on both Wednesday evenings during the period, May 6 and
May 13, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Tuesday night,
May 19, from7:00p.m. to9:00p,m.
