St. Martin Of Tours' Girls Basketball Teams
Have Undefeated Season; Teens Take Title

The Teen Girls coached by Jayne Colombo and assisted by Ann
DePrima, and consisting of girls in grades 6,7, & 8 went through the
season undefeated with 15 straight wins. They beat St. William's, Maria
Regina, St. James, St. Frances and St. Kilian's which put them in 1st
place in the Westbury Region. They entered the playoffs and beat Sacred
Heart in the Quarter Finals, St. Mary's in the Semi-Finals and St. Patrick
of Bayshore in the Finals to become Diocesan Champs. To add to their
season, the girls entered into the Holiday Tournament at Holy Trinity and
took home the 1st place trophy after beating St. Agnes and St. Frances. A
successful season was due to the outstanding performances in offensive
and defensive play by Jan Cantwell, Debbie Dorsch, and Kris Benasutti,
along with Patti O'Connor, Colleen Looney, Karen Reinholz, Pam Miller,
Jennifer Von Stetten, Suzanne Dugre, Jill Faiella, Regina Spellman and
Nancy Kucherick.
The Tyro Girls coached by Paul & Eileen Reinholz, and consisting of
girls in grades 9 & 10, also went undefeated in Section play beating St.
William's St. Brigid, Holy Family, St. Pius and St. Kilian's. They were
winners in the Semi-Finals but lost an exciting game in the Finals to St.
Boniface. The Tyro players are: Karen Keegan, Chris Reinholz, Lisa
Barnett, Nancy Bozzo, Cathy Bozzo, Allison Kane, Joann Lazarides,
Debbie Ziemblicki and Margaret Rost. A complete team effort by all the
girls gave them a winning season with a record of 11 wins and 1 loss.
Congratulations to all the girls for a fantastic season.
