George P. Losio, former vice president of the Farming-dale-
Bethpage Historical Society, is shown presenting a
handmade gavel to the current president, Augusta A.
Green, at a recent meeting. In his presentation, Mr. Losio
noted that the head was made of mulberry from
Bethpage, the handle of cherry from North Massapequa,
and the striking block of oak from Farmingdale. All work
on the set was performed by Mr. Losio except the engraved
presentation plate.
The G.F. Women's Club of Bethpage recently sponsored

Bethpage Golden Eagles
Band Of The Year
The Bethpage Golden Eagles spirit really shined through at the Nassau Coliseum on Friday, February 6th. The Bethpage
Golden Eagles Marching Band and the Golden Girls defended their title of New York Arrows' "Band of die Year"
against many other Long Island high school bands.
"Bethpage Nite" at the Coliseum was kicked off by Tom
Carrel," the man with the golden voice", singing the
National Anthem. After the audience recovered, Tom Carvel
kicked the ceremonial first ball and the game was off to a flying
start. The Golden Eagles Band played throughout the
game and also accompanied the Golden Girls in Behpage's
all time favorite "Sing, Sing, Sing". Everyone enjoyed the
excitement of indoor soccer and the Golden Eagles Band led
the New York Arrows' to a 11-7 victory over Philadelphia
Fever.
The Bethpage Golden Eagles Marching Band won the title
of New York Arrows' "Band of the Year" in 1980 because of
its ability to arouse the crowd's enthusiasm in cheering on
the New York Arrows. The Golden Eagles Band hopes to
maintain this title throughout 1981, thanks to the support of
all those Bethpage students, parents and teachers who were
present. The outcome of this year's competition will be
announced at the end of the New York Arrows' indoor soccer
season:
And remember the Spring Concert is coming up, March

Bethpage Songstress Featured
In Chorale Concert
Edna Kaufman, Bethpage resident and popular singer at
Fort Salonga's Steak Port Restaurant will be a featured
soloist in the Babylon Chorale Concert, "an Evening of
Opera" held at the North Babylon High School, Deer Park
Ave., North Babylon, Saturday March28 at 8p.m.
Ms. Kaufman has been appearing Saturday nights for over
a year with accompanist Wally Alesse. Their reputation as a
sparkling duo has spread throughout Long Island.
The Babylon Chorale has enjoyed Ms. Kaufman's talents
for twelve years as a singer and eleven years as Co-Concert
Manager. Her set design and execution with Co-Manager
Marilyn Coalter of West Islip has won side enthusiasm from
Chorale members and audiences.
When asked about why she devotes so much time and
energy to her art and music work with the Chorale as well
as her professional singing, Ms. Kaufman replied, "I
absolutely love doing it! Trying to give the audience an
unusual backdrop to lovely music (as inexpensively as
possible) is a wonderful challenge. We never know how it will
turn out ... so far we've been lucky with the results."
Delighted audiences will say it's more than luck. Talent and
hard work are obviously the reason.
Arias, duets and Chorus selections from operatic favorites
will be the highlights of the evening performance, presented
with the cooperation of the Suffolk County Council of the Arts
and the New York State Council of Performing Arts.
Tickets: Adults $4.00 Students & Sr. Citizens $2.00.
Further information: 665-9157.
