" At a recent meeting of the Knights of Columbus in
Mineola, twenty members were made Honorary Life
Members in this fraternal order of Catholic men. Grand
Knight Robert E. McGarvey, [center] of Corpus Christi
Council No. 2502, bestowed this honor on these men for
their long time service as "KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS".

Hempstead Town Presiding Supervisor Thomas S. Gulot-ta
[2nd, left] and Town councilman Joseph Mondello [left]
present a Citation for outstanding community service to
Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Levittown, represented
by Reverend John Harmon, pastor of the church,
during ceremonies commemorating the church's 30th Anniversary.
Also attending the presentation ceremony are

and master of ceremonies.
Oyster Bay Town Clerk Ann R. Ocker [right] joins participants
in the Pamela Eppner Memorial Bike-A-Thon at
the starting line. The annual Bethpage event was a
smooth ride thanks to the work of coordinator Signor Maio,
[left], refreshment chairperson Phyllis Borger [second
from left], and co-chairman Richard Sandler [third from
left] and Arlene Bahrenberg [fourth from left]. Also on
hand to give the riders a rousing send-off was Mrs. Evelyn

Town Honors Senior Volunteers
Senior citizens were honored at Oyster Bay Town Hall, today,
(Tuesday, May 5th) in ceremonies recognizing their efforts
in the Town of Oyster Bay Volunteer Services Program.
The ceremonies were highlighted by the presentation of the
"Senior Man of the Year" and "Senior Woman of the Year"
awards by Town Supervisor Joseph Colby.
Senior Citizen Recognition Day is held annually in the
Town of Oyster Bay and coincides with the nationwide observation
of May as Senior Citizen Month.
Merit awards are presented to various seniors in recognition
of the time and effort they contribute as part of the
Town's Volunteer Services Program. The Senior Man and
Woman are cited for their outstanding contributions.
This year's "Senior Woman of the Year" is Mrs. Lillian
Kopf, 79, of Plainedge. Walter Kompass, 72, the "Senior Man
of the Year", hails from Locust Valley.
Mrs. Kopf was honored for the time she has devoted to the
St. James Parish Church in Seafojd, participating in the One-to-
One Program, the Out-Reach Program and the Touch Program.
Her dedicated service to these programs has brought
light and hope to the sick, handicapped, shut-ins and the terminally
ill of the parish. She has also helped to start the
Timothy Hill Childrens Ranch in Riverhead that is now help-/
itig neglected and abused children:. Her participation in the
Blood Drive and the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Plainedge
have helped to make services available to those in the community
that need it the most. Mrs. Kopf has been an active
member of the Catholic Daughters of America in the St.
Ann's Parish, Stewart Manor, and serves as an Extraordinary
Minister visiting the sick and shut-ins, bringing Communion
to those unable to get to church. In her very precious
spare time Mrs. Kopf enjoys arts and crafts and bowling. She
has two children, nine grandchildren and 14 grejat grandchildren.

Walter James Kompass became active in the Senior Volunteer
Program when he had called to request inforrnationDri
Senior citizen programs. Now he picks up at least one other
senior volunteer and drives over 35 miles round trip; to. the
Suffolk State Developmental Center where he has been indeP
pendent on the outside world. He has also helped to set up t^e
center's Occupational Therapy Ceramic Workshop, utilizing^
the available space and getting involved with all ph8tsj&. of
processing ceramics. Mr. Kompass and his wife, Hilda, have
recently become volunteers at the Glengariff Nursing Home
in Glen Cove. His greatest pleasures include spending time
with his wife and their three children and four grandchildren,
going out to dinner and vacationing in Hyannis Port, Cape
Cod.
The Town of Oyster Bay operates 11 Senior Citizens Clubs
under the auspices of the Senior Citizen Services Division of
the Department of=Ce$imunity Services. They are open to all
Town residents 55 years of age and older. For further information

SENIOR OF THE YEAR: Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph
Colby shares a proud moment with Lillian Kopf of
Plainedge and James Kompass of Locust Valley, chosen
"Senior Woman of the Year" and "Senior Man of the Year"
at the Town's annual Senior Citizen Recognition Day on
Tuesday, May 5th. As part of its recognition of May as "Senior
Citizen Month," the Town paid tribute to seniors for their
many contributions as volunteers to various organizations
and agencies.
St. Martins CYO Basketball Awards Ceremony

The CYO of St. Martins has completed this year's
basketball program under the guidance of directors Frank
and Ceil Dillon.
The CYO is a non-denominational organization made up of
boys and girls grades 6 thru 10. It offers travel teams for boys
grades 6,7 & 8, girls grades 7 thru 10, as well as an intermural
program. The boys travel teams are accompanied by; Sjtr
Martins cheerleaders, grades 5 thru 8. Both cheerleadihg
squads took second place in the CYO competition. They
trained under the coaching of Miss Cocoman, Mrs. Giuliano
and Miss Beck.
The objectives of this program are to give our youth a
chance to develop talents, make new friends, accept rules,
regulations and responsibility. It also teaches them the joy $
victory and how to accept defeat productively. **!
At the closing awards ceremony, recognition was given to
the following players for their outstanding achievement this^
pastseason.
BOYS 6th grade Travel Team: coached by Paul Reinholz;
MVP - Tim Boyle, "Mr. Hustle" - John Doolan, Sportsmanship-
John Brennan. Other members of this team include
Danny McAuliffe, Jimmy Nugent, Timmy Conlon, Colin
Astarita, James Burnett, Richard Faiella, Michael O'Mara,
Jeff Philburn, Robert Finora, Brian Gallagher and Brian
Zimmer.
BOYS 7th GRADE TRAVEL TEAM: coached by Don
Frese; MVP- Kenny Pryor, Outstanding Player- Chris
Burden, Best Defense- John Burns, Hustler Award- Joey
Gallagher. The team also included Patrir^ Formato, Paul
VonBevern, Jason Nigro, Tom Foley, Bobby VonVoigt, Chris
Smith, and Jimmy Compton.
BOYS 8th GRADE TRAVEL TEAM: coached by Charlie
Miller; MVP- Chris Bracken, Sportsmanship- Matt Link,
Most Improved- John Lovisolo. Other team members are Pat
McCaffery, Joey Gendron, Doug Miller, Robert Formichelli,
John Morales, John Liperopoulous, Tom Foley and Chris
Boyle.
Teen Girls: coached by Jayne Colombo and Ann DePrima;
MVP'S- Debbie Dorsch and Jan Caritwell, Sportsmanship-
Karen Reinholz, Most Improved- Pam Miller. Other team
members are Colleen Looney, Kris Benasutti, Jennifer Von
Stetten, Regina Spellman, Jill Faiella, Patti O'Connor,
Suzanne Dugre, and Nancy Kucherick.
Tyro Girls: coached by Paul and Eileen Reinholz; MVP-Karen
Kegan, "Ms. Hustle"- Debbie Zimblicki, Sportsmanship-
Nancy Bozzo. Other team members are Lisa Barnett,
Chris Reinholz, Allison Kane, Kathy Bozzo, Joann Lazarides,
Margaret Rost.
Five Special Trophies were presented to St. Martins School
by the following 3 teams: Girls Tyro: 1st Place in Division
Trophy; 7th Grade Boys Travel Team: 1st Place Holy
Family Tournament, and 1st Place St. Vincent DePaul
Tournament. Girls Teen: 1st Place Holy Trinity Tournament,
CYO Diocesan Championship Trophy.
Boys Int'-"mural 1st place was won by Bud O'Mara's Green
Team. These boys were: John Connelly, Jason Donovan, Jim
Nugent, Tom Baierlein, Michael Fusco, John Baierlein,
Timmy Philburn, Stephen Mason, Michael O'Mara, and Jeff
Philburn.
The other teams in this league were coached by Ray
Reynolds, Denis McCarthy, and Luke McAuliffe.
Girls Intermural 1st Place was won by the Blue Team,
coached by Jackie Rispoli and Jim York. These girls were:
Denise DeGiorgio, Deanna San Miguel, Kristen Tedesco,
