Bethpage Boys First In
Nassau
County
On Friday, March 26, the Bethpage Marine Fitness Team, under the
aegis of Mr. Harry Settino, participated in the annual National Marine
Corps Youth Physical Fitness Program conducted at the Hofstra
University Fitness Center.
Bethpage entered two teams in the competition, made up to contain
push-ups, pull-ups, sit-ups, standing broad jump and a 300 yard shuttle
run.
The purpose of this program is to promote physical fitness under the
guidance of the Physical Education Department. The program has the
versatility and adaptabiliay required to enable all students to participate.
This year's team finished in first place in Nassau County and fifth place
in the entire Nassau, Suffolk and Queens area.
The members of these two teams have been practicing since September
in Mr. Settino's Physical Fitness class and have all passed the
President's Physical Fitness test. They have received certificates of
completion and have been awarded emblems from the White House.

The Bethpage chapter of the National Honor
Society inducted forty-one Senior high school
students during a candlelight ceremony at An-tun's
Restaurant in Hicksville. The induction
banquet was attended by,one hundred and fifty
parents, friends, and Honor Society members.
Susan McDonnell, president of the Bethpage
chapter of the Society, served as mistress of
ceremonies. #ther members of the Society under
the supervision of its advisor, Mrs! Harriet
Mensch, assisted in the preparations for this impressive
ceremony. The Bethpage High School
Dad's Club generously sponsored the dinner for
inductees friends and parents.
Mr. McElroy, the principal of the high school,
commended the Society inductees for their high
academic achievement, serious study and commitment
to the welfare and spirit of the school.
