College Opens Its Doors
In Seaford
The gold ribbon has been cut, and students,
friends, and neighbors of Five Towns College can
now hang their hats at the College's new campus
at 2165 Seaford Avenue in Seaford! On Friday,
August 13,1982, Five Towns College officially opened
its doors in Seaford with a Ribbon Cutting
Ceremony.
The ceremony began promptly at 11 a.m., as
more than fifty people gathered on the lawn and
steps of the College to witness the ribbon cutting.
The symbolic ribbon was cut by the combined efforts
of Senator Norman Levy of the Eighth Senatorial
District of New York State and Assemblyman
Fredrick Parola. Other dignitaries present
at the celebration were Mr. John McCoy
(President), Mr. Wilbur Erb, and Ms. Annette
Sletten of the Seaford School District Board of
Education; Mr. Edward Horton, Director of the
Seaford Public Library; Mr. Peter King, Nassau
County Comptroller; and Mr. Edward Carty of
the Long Island Association of Commerce and
Industry.
After the ceremony, guests were invited to
partake of refreshments. Senator Levy presented
two citations and welcomed the College into
the community, noting Five Towns College's
"confidence in its opening in Seaford on a day
like Friday the 13th!" Assemblyman Parola seconded
the senator's sentiments and commended
Five Towns College for the "proliferation of
postsecondary educational opportunities the College
makes available for its students and the
community."
A brief tour of the campus followed the presentation.
Highlights included a look at the newly
installed microcomputer laboratory, the expanded
library facilities, the paneled and carpeted
Reading / Writing Center, and the Secretarial
Science laboratory.
Five Towns College is now in the process of expanding
its parking lot to provide ample space
for its students and faculty.
Five Towns College welcomes visitors to drop
in at its new, larger campus, located on the corner
of Seaford Avenue and Waverly Avenue, or to
call for an appointment at (516) 783-8800 between
9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
