The Plainedge Soccer League kicked off its season with a Banner (Jon-test.
Oyster Bay Town Councilman John Venditto (right rear) was on hand
to judge the contest, which saw the Arrows win for the best overall banner
(Photo #1). Team members James LoFaso of Massapequa, David
Ruditsky and Kevin Ruditsky of Bethpage, Joe Pappalardo and David
Salerno of North Massapequa, Anthony Pergolotti of Massapequa, Brian
Veltri of North Massapequa and Brian Ruditsky of Bethpage proudly
display their team banner while (left to right rear) assistant coach Frank
Veltri, coach Sy Ruditsky and league president Sal Surian look on. The
prize for the most original banner went to the Blue Belles (Photo #2),
represented by team members Roseanne Serio of Bethpage, Camille Dar-gie
of North Massapequa, Gail Fing of Seaford, Lisa Miller of North
Massapequa, Jeanine Ambrino and Kristen Aponte of Bethpage. Cebbie
Covell of North Massapequa, Michelle Panebianco of Bethpage and Leslie
Gofberg, Karen Treacy and Colleen Tout of North Massapequa. Also on
hand were (left to right rear) league president, Sal Surian, and coaches
Marty Tout and Alan Gofberg.

At a recent meeting announcing plans to collect one million
signatures on petitions requesting that the next U.S.
aircraft carrier be named for Long Island are, seated from
left: Long Island Association of Commerce & Industry President
Peter F. Barry, Suffolk County Executive Peter F.
Cohalan, and Dennis Faherty, Assistant Suffolk County
Executive and co-chairman of the LIA's USS Long Island
Committee. Standing, from left, are Dan DeStafano,

Corporation; and C. William Gaylor, Executive Vice President
of the LIA.
The petition drive is being coordinated by the Long Island
Association and copies of the petition are available from the
LIA at 425 Broad Hollow Road, Melville, NY 11747.
