THE OLD BETHPAGE BRASS BAND will entertain Long Island Fair-goers with rousing traditional music played in the Village Square.
The Long Island Fair, the oldest traditional
Fall event in this area, with origins in 1841, will
open at Old Bethpage Village Restoration: Friday,
Oct. 8 and continue through Columbus Day,
Oct. 11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
The gala event, which features livestock, culinary,
produce, needlework and hobby competitions
and exhibits as well as puppet and magic
shows, brass band concerts, folk music, games
and rides for the children, agricultural contests
and much more is presented by the Nassau
County Department of Recreation and Parks and
the Agricultural Society of Queens, Nassau and
Suffolk Counties.
Following is a schedule of events:
Friday only - 10:30 - 2:30 - Traditional Music;
10:30 - Puppet Show; 11:00 - Great Wizard of the
North; 11:30 - Peter the Juggler; 12:00 - Great
Wizard of the North; 12:30 - Peter the Juggler;
1:00 - Puppet Show; 2:00 - Great Wizard of the
North; 2:30 - Peter the Juggler; 3:00 - Puppet
Show; 3:30 - Great Wizard of the North; 4:00
-Peter the Juggler.
Saturday only - 11:30 - Parade and Official
Ceremonies - Main Street & Fairgrounds.
Note: All historic buildings close until after the
ceremonies.
1:30 & 3:00 - Old Bethpage Singers at Manetto
Hill Church.
Sunday only - 1:30 & 3:00 - Old Bethpage Singers'at
Manetto Hill Church; 3:30 - Vespers at
Manetto Hill Church
Saturday, Sunday & Monday - 10:30 - 2:00
Races for Children - Children's Activity Area;
11:00 - Great Wizard of the North; 11:30 - Peter
the Juggler; Corn Husking Contest (except Saturday);
Brass Band Concert (except Saturday)
12:00 - Puppet Show; 12:30 - Great Wizard of the
North; Agricultural Skills Contest; 1:00 - Peter
the Juggler; Traditional Music; 1:30 - Puppet
Show; 2:00 - Brass Band Concert; Agricultural
Skills Contest; 2:00 - 4:00 - Country Dancing -
Dance area (beginners welcome); 2:30 - Great
Wizard of the North; 3:00 - Peter the Juggler;
Brass Band Concert; 3:30 - Corn Husking Contest;
Puppet Show; 4:00 - Great Wizard of the
North; 4:30 - Peter the Juggler.
Admission to the Long Island Fair is $3.50 for
adults'and $1.50 for children ages 5 through 17.
Parking is free. The Village is located on Round
Swamp Road, south'of exit #48 of the Long
Island Expressway. A cafeteria and gift shop are
located on the premises.
CORN-HUSKING CONTESTS like this one will
be just one of many diversions for children at the
fair.
PRIZE-WINNING OXEN such as this well-muscled
team will be on display with other
bovines and poultry at the Long Island Fair.
VISITORS TO THE LONG ISLAND FAIR at
Old Bethpage Village Restoration will view
exquisite needlework as well as other beautiful
hobby and craft items.
