Tough Laws For
Drunk Drivers
20 cents per copy
County Executive Francis T. Purcell, left, and
New York State Commissioner of Motor Vehicles
Leslie G. Foschio place a bumper sticker on a
Nassau County police car. The two men met
recently to launch Nassau County's STOP-DWI
program, which is designed to curb drunk
driving. Nassau's program was the first in the
state to be approved by the commissioner. Under
the program, fines for drunk driving have been
increased, and the fines collected will stay in the
county to pay for tougher law enforcement and
anti-drunk driving educational programs.
