Towed Away
To Impound
Today Major Raymond F. Shalvey, Commanding
OlTicer of Troop "L" of the New York
State Police, announced a new towing and
impound policy for illegally parked vehicles.
Effective immediately, all vehicles parked illegally
along the State Parkways in Nassau and
Suffolk Counties in the beach areas, will be issued
summonses and towed to a State impound yard.
With the cooperation of the New York State
Department of Transportation and the Long
Island State Park Commission, certain areas have
been designated as impound yards. All vehicles
that are towed to the impound yards will be at the
owners'expense.
A special squad of State Troopers will be
assigned to this detail, in conjunction with the
regular patrols in^the beach areas,-to deal with this
seasonal problem. The Troopers will use the services
of authorized tow agencies, whose trucks
will be on hand to expedite the removal of illegally
parked vehicles in the designated Tow-A-Way
Areas.
Major Shalvey further stated, "Regretfully, this
course of action is necessary, but hopefully, under
this new policy the motorists will be more inclined
and encoiiraged to pay the fee and use the designated
parking fields in the beach areas."

admire the. plaque to be mounted at the entrance
to the meeting room at the Bethpage Public
Library, hereafter to be known as the "Leo Schottland
Auditorium." Dedication of the room in

June 10. The inscription on the plaque, provided
by the Rotary Club of Bethpage, reads: "In Grateful
Recognition of His Service and Devotion to
the Bethpage Public Library and Community". .
A reception in Leo's honor that Sunday afternoon
was short on ceremony and long on good

The Banjo Rascals, a musical group consisting
of three banjos, a trombone and a tuba, entertained
with the nostalgic melodies of a bygone
era. Refreshments were provided by the Friends
of the Bethpage Public Library, a group which
Leo helped found and has headed for many years.
Fellow members of the Bethpage Rotary Club
and many friends stopped by to visit with Leo,
shar a cup of wine and sing some old songs...their
way of offering recognition to an autstanding
member of the community.
Principal Earns Award
Mr. Anthony Ducato, Principal of the John F.
Kennedy Junior High School in Bethpage, was
presented with an award at the annual Academic
Awards assembly held at the sjchool in mid June.
£very year each PTA unit chooses to honor an
individual in their district who has contributed a
great deal to the welfare of children and youth of
the community. The award is an Honorary Life
Membership in the New York State PTA and a
donation made in the awardee's name to the Jenkins
Memorial Fund for Teacher Education. This
is the very highest honor a PTA unit can bestow
on an individual, and this year the J.F.K. PTA
chose to present the award to Mr. Ducato, who
has worked in the Bethpage schools for 30 years.
