Reunion II
Memories....Memories....Memories! That's
what was in the air last Friday, September 14, at
the Imperial Manor in Bethpage, as friends
gathered for the second Bethpage Old Timers
Reunion. An informal smorgasboard and dancing
till 1 a.m. added to the fun.
Over 325 residents and former residents
attended the party, some coming from as far away
as California, Chicago, Maryland and Florida.
They reminisced about Bethpage the way it used
to be...a small, quiet farming community, crisscrossed
with dirt roads and bicycle paths; open
fields down in the *town* area and pine forest up«
where the numbered streets are now.
Shrieks of delight abounded as people met for
the first time in many, many years. Some families
occupied whole tables with their married children,
who are still Bethpage residents. Oft-heard
phrases were: "That's the BABY," "Do you
remember me," and of course, "remember when
we, etc., etc. A bulletin board of classroom pictures,
teachers and buildings, including an aerial
map of Bethpage were enjoyed time and time
again all through the evening.
Many months of hard work went into making
this reunion the success it was. The members of
the voluntary committee are Marie (Ratto) Calle-gari,
Florence (Mancuso) Cochran, Tess
(Agiesta) DeLaurentis, Josie (Buzziero) Javureck
Wmnets Apin

team in the tournament (10-0). Outstanding players
in the finals were Debbie Dorsch and Karen
Ripke who combined, for thirty spiked kills; they
were assisted by Danielle Catapano and Lynne
Rutkowski, Debbie Dorsch, captain, was named

PEOPLE Sponsors Bike-A-Thon
On Sunday, October 7, 1984, between the hours of 9:00
AM and 5:00 PM, PEOPLE at Bethpage Adolescent Development
Association, will join other community agencies at.
Eisenhower Park for the first annual Bike-A-Thon to raise
funds to fight drug abuse in Nassau County.
The PEOPLE organization has been providing drug
aibuse treatment and youth and family counseling services to
Bethpage and surrounding communities for over ten years.
and Jo and Frank Mazzara.
Frank and Rose (Mancuso) Grove,^ of the
Imperial Manor gave their special personal attention
to making the evening a success. The tables
were beautifully decorated with floral centerpieces
donated by EmiPs Nursery and door prizes,
were contributed by the merchants of Bethpage.
NEXT WEEK....we hope to have a centerfold
of pictures. ^
During this time, the agency has assisted hundreds of adolescents
and young adults in overcoming drug dependencies,
emotional problems and delinquent patterns of behavior.
For the past several years, PEOPLE has been faced with
serious financial problems. Government cut-backs and escu-lating
program costs have placed the continued existence of
PEOPLE in severe jeopardy. The Bike-A-Thoii of October
7th is an attempt on the part of PEOPLE and its co-members
of the Joint Coalition of Community Services
A^ndes of hfessau County to provide a means toward raising
the funds needed to continue the important work being done
to fight drug abuse in the community of Bethpage.
In order to accomplish this task, PEOPLE is seeking the
aid of the concerned citizens of Bethpage. Cyclists and sponsors
are needed to make this event a success. Tee shirts and
valuable prizes will be awarded to those cyclists bringing in
the most amounts of money from their efforts on October
7th. Everyone is requested to support this event and to help
this worthwhile cause.
For sponsor sheets, details and information, call 433-5344
Monday through Friday from 12:00 Noon to 10:00 PM.
