Home Improvement Fraud
Nassau County District Attorney Denis Dillon today
announced that his'office has filed charges against 32 individuals
and home improvement companies, some in our
area, for doing business in Nassau County without a license.
This is the largest number of firms charged at one time since
the law was passed in 1972. If convicted, each face one year
in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.
Dillon said, "Today's charges are the latest in a crackdown
against unlicensed contractors who fail to comply
with the local law. The charges follow consumer complaints
to the District Attorney's Office and County Consumer
Affairs Office by residents who felt they were bilked. Some
complained of poor workmanship, while others stated they
lost their down payments for work which was never done.
Following such a complaint, a check of the records showed
that these firms were not licensed to do home improvement
work in the County." .
In one case, a Bethpage homeowner said he contracted
with George SantuUi, owner of G & J GontractinginXpritof
1984 to remodel a kitchen. A $ 1,000 deposit was given to
Saritulli, and tpdate no work has been done and the monfey
has not been returned.
Companies in our area charged by the District Attorney**
Commercial Frauds Bureau and these last known addresses
are as follows: ANTHONY CORTESE, 5 Dennis Lane.

ISLAND DORMER CO. (five counts), 3686 Farm Ranch
Road, Bethpage; HENRY ROTHSCHILD and TOTAL
CONCEPTS BY ROTHSCHILD, INC. 44 Bethpage
Road, Hicksville.
In the past four years, the District Attorney's Office has
filed approximately 250 charges against home iraiprovement
