CAPA Workshops and Trips
Whether your interest is in arts and crafts of dancercize,
whether you're an adult, teen or chid, the CAPA Workshops
have something for you and registration is still open for the
spring session of CAPA Workshops. Classes are held at
local libraries and park centers to make them comfortably
accessible to all.
Courses vary in length from five to 10 weeks. The fees
range from $15 for a one-hour-^-week course that meets for
five weeks to $40 for a course that is held twice weekly for
two-and-a-half hours for 10 weeks.
Registration is conducted on a mail-in basis only. A brochure
outlining the courses being offered is available at all
Town facilities as well as at- local libraries. It can also be
obtained by contacting CAPA vat 795-5943. Hynes noted
that the spring session begins the week of February 24.
CAPA will also offer a Museum and Gallery Tours trips
series and a Bus Trips series, both beginning the week of
March 3, The fee for both trips series is $60 for Town
residents and $75 for non-Town residents, which does not
include admission fees. Both series include five trips and
information is included in the CAPA Workshops brochure.
Thes spring's Museum and Gallery Tours series will
include the New York Historical Society, the Brooklyn
Museum, the Roman Bronze Works and Queens Museum,
the Whitney Museum, and a day in Soho. The Bus Trips
series will include a matinee of the Broadway musical 'Jerry's
Girls,' the Metropolitan Museum, a toiir of the Waildorf.
Astoria, a day at the Norwalk Faclpry Outlet Center in
Connecticut, and a performance by the American Ballet
Theatre.
Physically Challenged Games
New York State is pleased to announce the Games for the
Physically ChaHenged are to be held on May 29-June 1. This
is an exciting new program offered by the Office of Parks,
Recreation and Historic Preservation and hosted by Nassau
County at Nassau Community College and Mitchel Park
Park on Long Island.
Invited to compete are physically challenged young athletes,
ages 8 through 21, who are blind, deaf, spinal cord
injured, those who have cerebral palsy, amputees and Les
Autres. Each entrant is eligible to compete in a total of six (6)
events in track field or swimming.
In addition to the scheduled meets, walk-in, hands-on
clinics will be given on a variety of adapted sports.
There is no charge for this fun filled event, but pre-registration
is required. For applications or more information,

Nassau County's Legislative Liaison for BOCES, Dr. Charles Colangelo (right),
recently visited the State Capitol in Albany to discuss county BOCES programs with
local State Senator John Dunne (center) and his Legislative Counsel Michael Balboni
.(left). Senator Dunne assured Dr. Colangelo that every effort would be made to ensure
that sufficient state funding is provided for BOCES programs this year.
Assemblyman Fred Parola proudly accepts the Lenny Kershow Award which was
bestowed upon him by the members of Help-Aid-Direction of Hicksville. Assemblyman
Parola was cited for his many years of dedication to the programs administered bv HAD.

Scholarship $$ For Catholic Schools
Grammar school and junior
high school students who
are planning to apply to
Nassau-Suffolk Catholic
high schools can slash their
tuition cijsts by applying for
the scholarship program
that the St. Vincent de Paul
Society has just begun to
offer.
The "Ken Potterton Scholarship"
has been established
by the Long Island
Diocesan Council of the St.
Vincent de Paul Society "to
promote and expose young
adults to the benefits of
Catholic education," stated
Robert Ellis, Executive
Secretary of the Bethpage
headquartered non-profit
service organization.
All students considering a
Catholic high school education
are eligible, and should
apply, the only requirements
for the scholarship are a) a
good academic record and
b) demonstrating a sincere
desire to attend a Catholic
high school.
Applications for the scholarship
can be obtained from
any local Catholic Church
where there is a St. Vincent
de Paul "conference." The
deadline for submitting the
application is March 1st.
The scholarship winners will
be announced April 1st.
Several scholarships will be
awarded.
The St. Vincent de Paul
Society, a Catholic lay
organization which is best
known for its role in providing
clothing and furniture
for the needy, is also accepting
donations from people
who would like to augment
the scholarship fund. It was
bequeathed to the society by
Mr. Ken Potterton, a former
Vincentian from Rockville
Centre. Mr. Potterton was a
food wholesaler by profession,
and is decribed by his
fellow members as an
extremely charitable and
spiritually devoted man.
F'dale Businessman Appointed Delegate To
White House Small Business Conference
Rep. Norman F. Lent is pleased to announce that he has
appomted Sebastian A. Albrecht of Farmingdale as New
York's Fourth Congressional District delegate to the White
House Conference on Small Business. Mr. Albrecht is a
partner in the firm of Albrecht, Viggiano, Zureck & Co,
CPAs, 375 Fulton Street, Farmingdale, New York.
"Mr. Albrecht offers the knowledge and experience necessary
to actively represent the best interests of Long Island's
small business community at this important event. I am
pleased that he has agreed to accept this appointment," said
Rep. Lent.
The purpose of the White House Conference is to discuss
programs and policies affecting the small business community,
such, as tax reform and budget reductions, trade, procurement
and regulatory policies. The White House Conference
will be held August 17-21, 1986, ^n Washington, D.C.
