MOURNERS MARCH TO THE BEAT OF A MUFFLED DRUM during a re-creation of 19th Century Mourning Customs at 0(d Bethpage Village Restor-ation
on Saturday and Sunday, August 27 and 28.

Century Mourning Customs"
will take place at the Old
Bethpage Village Restoration's
Williams House on Saturday
and Sunday, August 27 and 28, from 10
AM to 4:30 PM.
County Executive Thomas S.
Gulotta said mourning customs of the
Victorian period differed significantly
from today's practices. The wake would
be held in the home of a relative, where a
black ribbon hung on the front door to
alert visitors of the gathering inside.
Nineteenth Century Long Islanders
expressed their grief in the form of art
work, clothing, jewelry, poetry and
samples, which wil be on display for
visitors.
Al the Village cemetery, the church
sexton will prepare a grave and tell tales
of deceased 19th Century Long
Islanders.
Old Bethpage Village Restoration is
operated by the Museum Services Division
of Nassau County Department of
Recreation and Parks. It is located on
Round Swamp Road in Old Bethpage,
one mile south of the Long Island
Expressway, exit 48. A cafeteria, gift
shop and picnic area are on the premises.
Admissin to the Village is $4, $3
for Nassau residents and $2 for children,
ages 5-17 and Senior Citizens.
September is "Senior Citizen Month"
at Old Bethpage Village Restoration.
The weather is more comfortable, the
crowds are gone and transportation
through the historical Village is available
to seniors and the handicapped during
the month of September, with the
exception of Labor Day Weekend.
County Executive Thomas S.
Gulotta said thai senior adult groups
can arrange for a special guided tour of
the Village in the comfort of their own
buses. The tour includes a light
refreshment and an opportunity to take
a short walk through some of the restored
buildings. An orientation film can
be viewed in the Reception Center
where a gift shop and cafeteria are also
available, with accessibility for the
handicapped.

Senior adult groups and the handicapped
by reservation only from Tues-

MISSING!
On Tuesday, August 16, 1988
a gray leather handbag and all
its contents were stolen from
Photonews Long Island Corporation,
located at 329 Broadway,
Bethpage. It contained
cash, credit cards and assorted
personal belongings which I am
now trying to replace. The only
belonging in the handbag that
can not be replaced is a letter
written by my father, which was
written to me before he passed
away last month and a rnass
card from his funeral which was
sealed with a personal belonging
of his in it. There is no way 1

anyone finds these objects or if
the individual who stole the
handbag reads this ,.. please
keep the cash and anything else
you may want, but return those
two items, no questions asked.
They are all 1 have left to
remember my father by and I
can't express how heartbroken I
am to lose them. The letter was
written on pink stationery and
the mass card depicts Christ on
one side and inscription with the
name Alexander C. AntonelU,
1931 - 1988 written on the back.
