How could it be possible that a
poster puzzle depicting the Bethpage
area could fuel so much controversy
and confusion? That's what we at the
Bethpage Tribune tried to determine
earlier this week.
It seemed easy enough. Last August
a representative from GJ Ideas, in
conjunction with the Police Athletic
League, solicited merchants in and
around Bethpage to see if each
individual proprietor would like to
take part in a poster and puzzle
depicting the Bethpage community. A
large number of our local merchants
took part in this venture thinking it
was a novel idea, having seen other
'map type posters' designed for other
towns and organizations. Logos,
business cards and the like were
collected to be used as art work along
with payment in full in order to take
part in this venture.
Still fairly simple. Until weeks and
months passed by and the posters were
no where to be found. Soon, we at
the BethpageTribune, began getting
calls from various merchants inquiring
as to the whereabouts of these
posters...and so that's when we
became involved in the 'poster
dilemma'.
And the story unfolds. A member
of the Police Athletic League who was
involved in organizing this project,
Tom Frost, received the completed
posters and puzzles on February 24.
After examing the puzzles he has told
us that he felt they were incorrect and
that they did not do justice to our
community, thus he sent them back
to GJ Ideas on March I. The errors
which were cited are as follows: A
Greco Fuel Oil logo was put on a
painters van instead of a fuel van, a
Grumman F-14 was not depicted as
such, in fact it is said to look more
like the space shuttle than the F-14,
the PAL club house was covered UD
