A Plea far Help
he Bethpage Tribune does nol typkaUy print Letters to the Editor
on page one. This letter, however, which we received yesterday, was
by no means typical. We ask that you please read this letter. Its
tells the story of a Bethpage residents struggle to live. It tells a story of
courage and misfortune and it asks for your help and support. It is the
story of BRAD VLRKH.
Dear Fditor,'
This is a letter about BRAD
IJLRICH. He needs help, and we, his
friends are going to help him.
Most of LIS reading this letter know
Brad, but here's a short biography for
those who do not know him quite as
well.
Brad was born in Queens, N.Y., in
1958. He grew up and completed
Bethpage High School, in Bethpage
N.Y. He graduated from C.W. Post
Division of Long Island University
with a degree in Geology and Environmental
Science. As a fresh bachelor
graduate. Brad set out to pursue his
field and moved to Houston, Texas,
where he got a job as a mud logger
in the oil fields. Not having grown up
in and around the south Texas oil
fields, it took some gumption for a
young, relatively long-haired (by oil
field standards), wet-behind-the-ears
kid with a New York accent to try
and break into that culture. But, Brad
paid his dues, stuck with it, and he
did it! He worked for several years
in Texas, until drilling dried up and
work became scarce.
In 1985, as bachelors can do much
more easily than the rest of us, By^d
picked up his toys and m'oved to
Florida. He got a job with a company
which did ground water consulting.
Brad did well and developed a good

JOHN A. MASINO PARK
John A. Masino
He was a gentle man~a kind
man. A loving, devoted,
giving man who gave to his
family, friends and community
tirelessly and unselfishly ..He
was John A . Masino and on Sunday,
September 24, 1989 Bethpage paid
tribute to an outstanding member of
the community who will never be
forgotten.
Many of us in Bethpage knew John.
He was an individual who gave so
much to his community it would be
hard to have not known him. For
more than 32 years of his involvement
in the town of Bethpage, John was
active with the Bethpage Little
League. He was a team manager.
umpire and even a field cleaner. John's
passion for the game of baseball and
his love of children enabled him to
instill sportsmanship, leadership and
comaradarie in every team that was
lucky enough to play with him or for
him.
His dedication and ambition were
also evident in his 36 years of employment
with the Bethpage Post Office.
He was also extremely active in his
parish—St. Martin of lours and
worked tirelessly for the American
Legion Archie McCord Post ^^86.
But it is not just these qualities and
accomplishments that most people
will remember John for. John, plain
