November 2-November 8, 1989 0 CENTS
By Linda Antonelli Last week Bethpage was truly
in the RED when students,
businesses and residents
pledged to become a drug
and alcohol free community by participating
in RED RIBBON WEEK.
The entire community of Bethpage
was asked to display a red ribbon to
signify their participation in this truly
worthwhile project.
And believe me, you couldn't walk
through the streets of our community
without seeing a red ribbon on a lapel,
around a tree, tied to a car antenna
or pinned to a blouse. It truly was
inspirational to see the youth of our
community totally committed to the
ideal of creating a drug and alcohol
free community.
The Bethpage Tribune had the
honor of visiting Charles Campagne,
John F. Kennedy Jr. High School,
and Bethpage High School to view the
activities that were taking place last
week. The level of enthusiasm
throughout the entire school system
was unbeleivable. It is so important
to make the youth of our community
aware of the dangers that alcohol and
drugs pose to their future and the
future of all communities. Films were
shown in all school levels and I was
able to attend the viewing of one such
film which was shown in the 6th grade
at Charles Campagne School. This
film was quite informative and powerful
and it truly captured the attention
of every^^b-gwuiei'. in the
classroom. I definately think that it
made an impact on the way these
particular students will view drug and
alcohol abuse in the future.
The task of creating a drug and
alcohol free community is quite a
(continued on page 11)
Even our very own Bethpage High School mascot wore his RED RIBBON
in honor of RED RIBBON WEEK, October 23 - 27.
