ADay to Celebrate our
Farth...sounds ludicrous
but the F.arth Day tradition,
which started in 1970,
has truly catight on. When the youth
oi" our town started this concept some
twenty years ago it was thought of
as a extreme almost radical idea.
Today it is an important tool to
heighten public awareness as to the
important environmental problems
and concern we all face.
Two decades later, the Town of
Oyster Bay has planned there Earth
Day festivities for April 21, and April
22. Three separate activites are
planned which Town residents are
encouraged to participate in. On April
21 and 22 a plastics recycling collection
will take place at the Town's Old
Bethpage solid waste disposal complex
between the hours of 8:30am and
4 p.m. These items will be collected
by the recycler and used to make new
items and plastic products.
On Saturday there will also be a

ing environmental programs and
exhibits will be available for the entire
family to view and participate in. The
event will begin at 11 a.m. and end
at 5 p.m.
Events in other Town as well will
be taking place to celebrate this
important day with activities ranging
from garbage collection in Massape-qua
to sidewalk sales in Babylon. And
each Town participates with the same
purpose. To educate and inform
steps which have to be taken to insure
our children'.** generation and their
children's generation of the same
beautiful beaches and the same lush
land as we have been privileged to
have. Recycling is certainly a step in
the right direction. Pollution control
and conservation are also necessary
in preserving the earths qualities and
beauty. Get involved in Earth Day!
They're your oceans, it's vour land and
your air...IT'S YOUR EARTH DAY!
