BILL ELLINGER ELECTED AS
CHAIRMAN OF
LONG ISLAND WATER CONFERENCE
Beth pages Water Commissioner Since 1978 Chosen to Head Conference
Pledging to continue his work
toward a clean, safe and abundant
public water supply, Bethpage Water
District Commissioner Bill EUinger
was sworn-in as chairman of the Long
island Water Conference (LIWC) at
a recent ceremony.
EUinger, who will hccid the conference
during the upcoming year, has
been a LIWC member for II years
and previously served as first \ice
chairman.
"Bill is a solid professional
extremely well-versed in all water
supply issues," said outgoing chairman
Italo Vacchio. "He was a great
help to me during my term, i know
that under his leadership the conference
will move closer to realizing its
many worthwhile goals."
Wasting no time, EUinger outlined
a comprehensive agenda that includes
lobbying for tougher legislation
governing the bottled water industry
and home water filter manufacturers.
He also vowed to uphold the organization's
long-standing commitment
to water conservation and quality.
"Tal Vacchio accomplished a great
deal during his tenure in office and
defined many important issues,"
EUinger said. "I hope to build on his
fine record of achievement."
A Commissioner of the Bethpage
Water District since 1978, EUinger is
.also a member of Oyster Bay Town's
Environmental Control Commission.
During his distinguished career, he has
served as superintendent of buildings,
grounds and transportation for the
Roslyn School District. A resident of
Bethpage. he and his wife Barbara,
have six children.
In addition to Elligner's appointment,
the conference installed its
remaining officers for the 1990-91
term.
Oceanside resident Donald Abrew.
manager of distribution of the Long
Island Water Corporation, was elevated
from second vice chairman to
first vice chairman. Abrew, a licensed
professional engineer, has worked for
Long island Water for 22 years. He
is also a member of the National
Society of Professional Engineers, the
American Water -Works Association
and the National Association of Water
Companies, New York Chapter.
Conference Secretary John Tame,
a resident of Wantagh, was named
second vice chairman. Tame, who is
vice president of operations for the
Jamaica Water Supply Company, is
also a member of the American Works
Association.
Frank Pipino, superintendent of the
Brentwood Water District, was
appointed secretary. In addition to his
Water Conference duties, the 17-year
veteran of Brentwood Water is a
member of the American Water
Works Association.

respected by so many people: a person
whose presence will be deepiv missed
because of his personal traits, truthfulness
and dependability as a friend.
On Monday. June !8, the PIA
prepared a surprise presentation for
Mr, Blau at which the entire population
of the school participated. He
received many presentations from the
PI A and the individual classes. Some
gifts were humorous, others were
.sentimental. As Mr. Blau danced with
various people to the tune of lo Sir
With Love, there wasn't a dry eye in
the room! On the evening of .lune 18.
Mr. Blau was once again surprised by
a dinner held at the Roslyn Country
Club by the Staff of Central Blvd.
A Dinner Dance will be held in Mr.
Blau's honor on September 27 and all
who wish to attend are welcome.

it certainly is the closing of a special
era at Central Boulevard School as
Mr. Kenneth S. Blau, principal and
good friend, retired as of June 30,
1990. While the staff, the .students and
the parents wish Mr. Blau luck for
a happy and healthy future, most
people could not hold back tears when
it was time to actually say good-bye.
Mr. Blau had worked for the Bethpage
School District for his entire 35 year
career in the field of education. He
has .served as the Principal of Central
Blvd. School since 1972 and over the
years has created a family like atmos-
