Ewerything's Comirig Up 'Roses'
n Bethpage
Most of us here in Bethpage have
been looking at the empty ex-variety
store on Broadway with the hopes that
someone somewhere would show
some interest in the facility. Well
about two weeks ago the "For Rent"
sign came down and the windows were
covered.
At last this store has been rented
and we welcome our new neighbor
The Rose Theatre, an affiliate of the
Piainedge Playhouse a not for-profit
agency who for years has brought
theatre to our area. The new Rose
Theatre which took over the existing
4,800 sq. foot facility is set to open
its door in April of 1991. The theater
intends to offer something for everyone
including, dramas, comedies.
musicals and dance. There will be a
Teen Summer Workshop, Monday
night dance classes, Childrens's theatre
and it will even be available for
private parties and community events
as well as Murder Mystery Theatre.
Since this theatre is a not-for-profit
agency they are as long for some
assistance in aiding this rose to grow.
If you are interested in being a part
of this theaters success please consider
making a tax-deductible contribution
to help the theatre succeed. For more
information call 935-7446.
The Tribune welcomes the Rose
Theatre to Bethpage and hopes that
the 'cultural seed' which they have
planted in our area will grow and
prosper.
Haiidicapped Parking Enforcement
The Nassau County Board of
Supervisors has approved a local law
instituting a volunteer program for
handicapped parking enforcement.
The measure was proposed by Hempstead
Presiding Supervisor Joseph N.
Mondello and Long Beach Supervisor
Bruce Nyman.
According to Presiding Mondello,
Vice Chairman of the Board,"The
intent of this legislation is the creation
of a program of volunteers who will
work in conjunction with the various
county law enforcement agencies for
increased enforcement of County and
State handicapped parking
regulations."
Supervisor Nyman stated "The
program will utilize volunteers to
survey parking lots for the purpose
of photographing vehicles parked in
violation of the handicapped parking
provisions of the Vehicle and Traffic
Law."
Under the new program, when a car
is observed illegally parked in a
handicapper's parking space, volunteers
will photograph the license plate,
the handicapped parking sign and the
blue strip designating the space as
reserved handicapped parking- The
Police Department will then send an
Appearance Ticket advising the registered
owner of the motor vehicle
when and where to appear in court,
and what charge has been lodged
against them.
"It is incumbent upon the county
to institute such programs to aid
the handicapped citizens in the
county" concluded Mondello. "The
efforts of these volunteers will ensue
that the right of a handicapped
individual to pai k in designated spaces
is not infringed upon."
