Happy Motoring Brian
Pictured above is Brian Zura, 3 of Bethpage and his **New Wheels.""
Congratulations to Brian Zura, 3,
of Bethpage who was quite a "BIG
SHOT" on Saturday, March 3 at the
Monster Truck Competition held at
the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum,
when he was chosen at random
from a packed audience to be recipient
of a special surprise.
At intermission Brian was presented
with a '^Monster Truck" of his own
and both he, his Dad Bill and Uncle
Robert were quite shocked that little
Brian was selected from such a huge
audience. Lucky! Lucky!! Lucky!!!
Way to go Brian and happy motor-ing
from the Bethpage Tribune.

Cats, Cats and more cats!
...almost 15 of them and all
under one roof or should we
say under one building, our
American Legion Hall located on
Washington Street in Bethpage.
Anyone who passes by the Legion
Hall I am sure notices the multitude
of cats surroundihg the building and
has wondered as to who their owner
is and why are there so many of them.
Well the Bethpage Tribune got the
scoop!
Once upon a time there was a little
female cat who met a handsome male
feline friend. It was love at first site
and early last spring there was a litter
born at the legion Hall. Many of these
cats were adopted although some
kittens were left behind. Legion Hall
members as well as passers by saw
these little bundles of furry joy and
now and then served the cats a meal
or two. Well, that is when the problem
started. Apparently each cat told
another cat and that cat told a friend
and so on and so on...and so now there
are at least 15 cats with more coming
each and every day.
And now...the prublcni. With so
many cats sleeping at the oV 1 cgion
Hall Kilty Motel, a .stronjj; and
ofTensivc odor has dcNeloped that is
quite unbearable to anyone walking
by or using the Legion Hall lacilitv.
We spoke with members of the
American Legion and they are quite
concerned with the problem, riiey
love the little kitties and are trying to
remedy the situation any way they can.
They patched up the foundation area
around the Hail to prevent the cats
from going underneath the building.
but believe it or not, 1 saw the metal
sheets that were pried away when
those determined cats wanted to retire
lor the evening. Ihcy called the
Humane Society and the Animal
Shelter to get some suggestions but
there really has not been any solution
to this purrrr-ple.xing problem.
The American Legion Hall which
is a WWI building is in very good
condition and members are trying to
make all the repairs that arc necessary
to keep their Hall in good shape.
When I visited the Hall to discu.ss this
problem all the doors were open and
there must have been 15 air fresheners
placed around the facility to combat
the kitty odors. The American Legion
members do not want anything to
happen to these cats...they Ye 'softies',
too, and feed the cats from time to
time, but in the interim they do not
want to destroy the American Legion
Hall which they work so hard on to
keep up. A very difficult situation.
S0...I ask our readers..."Anybody
wanna cat?" Believe me when 1 say
that these cats are all colors, all
beautiful, all sizes and are all at the
Legion Hall. Amcricat) Lcgson
members would love 10 sec good
homes lor these cats. They told mc I
that they would bv no means have the .
cats taken away by the pound and thai I
they would not let the cats starve. I hey \
just had no idea that the '1 cline Club .
of Bethpage' wt)uki be occupying there '.
facility each and every dav. They;
wouldn't mind one or two cats but;
they certainly didn't count on the Hock ;
they have now. •
Anyone interested in adopting a cat [
please call the Tribune office at 681- •
0440...believe me, you'll have quite a
selection. ;
