LOCAL RESIDENT INVITES
BETHPAGIANS TO FAIR
Steven Jonas, member of the
Chamber of Commerce of the Bel-
Imores and long time resident of
Bethpage, is pleased to invite the
people of his community to the 5
Annual Bellmore Family Street Festival
on September 21st and 22nd.
This year's "Family Festival" which
drew an estimated 60,000 people last
year will again take place in a 10
square block area known as the
Bedford Avenue Business District
(located at the LIRR Station and
Sunrise Highway) in Bellmore.
Unlike other festivals that offer
limited themes, The Bellmore Family
Street Festival is the largest "Family
Oriented" Festival on Long Island
offering more than 100 family style
events and displays.
"People come to this event from all
over the metropolitan area and Long
Island. It is my pleasure to be involved
in an event that brings so much
pleasure to so many people", commented
Steven Jonas.
"We've really out done ourselves
again this year with such events as the
US Army Parachute Jump, Long
Island Game Farm Petting Zoo,
Nassau County Mounted Unit and
Antique Police Cars. US Army Helicopters
will fill the skies above Bellmore
while Tanks, M.A.S.H. Units,
Fire Department Expo's will fill the
streets. Roaming in between, will be
such celebraties as Spiderman, and
even Ninja Turtles, to name a few!
I'm as excited as the children," said
Steven.
In addition. The Chamber has
scheduled Karate Demonstration,
Archie and Jughead, Gumby, Puppet
Shows, local talent on the Nassau
County Showmobile, Country and
Western Dancing, Carnival rides and
over 100 Hand-Crafted Craft vendor
booths.
On Saturday, at 12 Noon, the
Festival will be officially dedicated to
OPERA HON: WELCOME HOME,
in honor of our armed forces in the
Gulf. As always, our POW/MIA's
will be remembered in our prayers,
during the opening day ceremonies.
Admission to the Festival is FREE.

Mid Island Hospital Opens
New Endoscopy Center
Mid-Island Hospital (Bethpage)
announced the opening of a new
Endoscopy Center at the hospital on
4295 Hempstead Turnpike. The center
will provide patients state-of-the-art
equipment in a centralized location
with full back-up hospital services.
Eighty percent or more of these
diagnostic procedures are performed
on an Ambulatory basis. The patient
and anyone accompanying them will
be instructed to go directly to the
Center for Endoscopy where everything
will take place from Admitting
to Recovery and Discharge. The self-contained
area should reduce waiting
times and anxiety from this type of
surgery.
All of the diagnostic procedures
performed in the Center utilize flexible
tubes (scopes) to look into an opening
of the anatomy with the following
high-tech equipment: light box, video
camera, and glass fiberoptics. When
a physician suspects a problem,
trouble spots can be located instantly
by passing these flexible scopes
through an opening of the anatomy.
Sometimes, these procedures can be
therapeutic in that polyps can be
removed from the colon or inflammations
can be cauterized to treat a
bleeding ulcer. Otherwise, biopsies for
cancer cells can be detected; pathology
reports for fungus and TB can be
taken; and washings of the lungs can
be performed. These procedures arc
considered non-invasive in nature
with limited risks to the patient due
to the hospital's safe environment.
If you need a local physician, call
Mid-Island's Physician Referral Service,
Mondav through Fridav, 9:00
A.M. - 5:00 P.M. at 520-2387 to give
you names of physicians in your area.
On weekends, holida ys, or after hours,
call 579-6000 and ask for Nursing
Supervision for a physician referral.
For over thirty five years, Mid-
Island Hospital has served the surrounding
communities with a caring
approach to their medical needs, fhe
new Endoscopy (enter is a result of
the hospital's commitment to provide
diagnostic procedures in keeping with
the facility's dedication to excellence
in healthcare.
