Serving Befhpage, Island Trees, Plainedge, Seaford, Old Befhpage and Plainvie
VOL. 24 NO. 37 August 16-22, 1991 25 CENTS
Saturday morning Bethpage awoke
to sunny blue skies and the Bethpage
Chamber of Commerce sighed with
relief as August 10 was the day for
their first Annual Bethpage Chamber
of Commerce Festival. And oh boy
what an event it turned out to be...
as it attracted nearly 10,000 spectators
and lasting until after 11:00 pm in the
evening, with a spectacular grand
finale, Grucci's fireworks display. The
event was designed to promote business
in Bethpage while also thanking
residents for their support and patronage.
Nearly 65 local merchants participated
in the event by either selling
food, selling merchandise or helping
to organize the event.
The Chamber of Commerce hoped
and prayed that this event would be
well attended but they were totally
sujtprized when thousands of people
decided to be a part of this special
night in Bethpage. Needless to say
Festival organizers were anxious and
nervous in their first attempt at this
new venture but by 4:00 (the start of
the Festival) a steady stream of people
began flocking to the train station
parking lot and by 7:00 the Chamber
realized just how many people were
actually in attendance. A word to
describe it all... awesome!
There were rides for the kiddies and
games for adults as well as a 50-50
raffle and many prizes which were
given away by various merchants
which even included 100 gallon fuel
oil deliveries! Music and non-stop
entertainment kept spectators dancing
all evening long and the Antique Car
Show, Dance Recital and Karate
Demonstration had Festivalgoers in
awe.
The Chamber of Commerce would
like to thank all those who attended
the Festival as well as those merchants
and volunteers whose tireless devotion
and efforts helped to produce a
spectacular event. They would also
like to thank the Town of Oyster Bay,
TOB Supervisor Angelo Delligatti
and Councilman Lenny Kunzig for all
their help and support. And as for a
Second Annual Summer Festival...
you can bet your bottom dollar that
there will be one and probably bigger
and better than the first (if that is at
all possible). Hats off to the Chamber
ol Commerce and Bethpage residents...
Yoii sure know how to have
a good time!
Nearly 10,000 spectators flocked to the First Annual Chamber of Commerce Summer Festival which was held
on August 10. The event was held to promote business and unity in Bethpage.
