Fatal Train and Auto Accident in Betlipage

Det. John Cowal! of the 8th
Squad reports the details of a fatal
auto accident involving a train that
occurred in Bethpage on 6-4-92 at
2:00 P.M.
A 68 year old male driving a 1985
Chevrolet southbound oh South
Oyster Bay Rd. disregarded a
LIRR railroad crossing signal by
driving around the gates and
across the tracks. He was struck
by an eastbound LIRR train that
originated out of Penn Station at
1:14 P.M. The deceased has been
identified as Salvatore Feola, 67 of
Bethpage.
The train was traveling at
approximately 60-70 M.P.H. when
it struck the vehicle. The driver
was pronounced dead at the scene
by Nassau County A.M.T. Tantillo.
The Bethpage Fire Department
responded to the call with emergency
vehicles and set up triage
stations for injured persons on the
train.
The car was impounded for
brake tests and the investigation
will be conducted by the L.I.R.R.
Police.
