Bethpage High School Girls
Alumni Swim Meet on August 13
They came from Frankfort, Germany,
Penndei, Pa., Greenville,
N.C., and many, many other towns
and states to compete in the first
Bet-hpage Girls Alumni Swimming
Meet held on Aug. 13, 1992. The
teams consisted of the odd year
graduating classes vs. the even
year graduating classes. Nearly
every year from 1973 to 1995 was
represented In the meet and when
the smoke cleared and the water
was stilled the final score was:
EVEN YEARS—115 points, ODD
YEARS 182 points. The N.Y.
State H.S. certified swimming
officials were Gladis Moore and
Jackie Soulier.
Immediately following the swim
meet a dinner reception was held
in the high school cafeteria where
friends and family gathered to
recall all the "good times." All
agreed the Alumni meet was an
event worth repeating and should
be a new Bethpage tradition. The
most memorable quote of the
evening came from a small boy
leaning over the railing in the
bleachers shouting, "GO
MOMMY!!"

Bethpage Salutes
Two Local Heroes
It was a sunny afternoon on
Wednesday August 12 and Jim
Gallagher and Ron Abrams were
enjoying the day at the Bethpage
State Park Golf Course. In the
course of their conversation Jim
mentioned to Ron that he
observed a suspicious looking
Individual who was at the golf
course during the past few days
who seemed to be checking cars.
No sooner did they turn their
heads, when the gentleman
appeared again.
The gentleman who was
approximately 30 - 40 years old
was approximately 5 foot 10
inches tall with brown hair/He was
between 210-220 pounds and was
seen wearing a yellow shirt, white
shorts and was carrying two golf
clubs. When Jim and Ron saw this
gentleman it appeared that he was
looking into cars and trying the
handles to see if the automobiles
were unlocked.
Ron and Jim quickly got into
their Chevy Blazer and followed
the man through the lot. The
suspicious gentleman went over to
a red sports car reached through
the open sunroof and v^ith the golf
club attempted to open the
passenger side door. As the man
was trying to pry the lock he
spotted Jin and Ron and
immediately turned and headed
for the clubhouse, all the while
ooking back and checking to see
