A MESSAGE OF tOVE
FROM GARY WILLIAMS
Pictured above is Gary Williams in the motorized wheelctiair that
Bethpage raised enough funds to purchase for him.
I don't think anyone could or has
forgotten Gary Williams, a favorite
son of Bethpage. As I'm sure most
of you know, Gary, an insulin-dependent
diabetic, lost his legs,
four fingers on each hand and
needed dialysis to survive. He also
lost vision in one eye and was
living in a facility in Florida. Gary
was the recipient of a Tribune
Bowlathon this year and we were
pleased to report that over $6500
was raised to help Gary obtain an
electric wheelchair... something
he dreamed about...something
which would give the 39-year-old
former accountant the independence
he so desperately deserved.
Weil that day came for Gary. He
obtained a motorized wheelchair,
much thanks to your generosity
and also to Rich Furrey of Beth
I Drugs. He also was able to pur-
""chase a computer system which
would allow him to write and
communicate with his relatives
and friends in Be^thpage. Gary also
was miraculously fitted for artificial
limbs and for the first time in
a long time stood alone. In fact,
Gary's progress advanced so
rapidly that plans were being
made to have him return home to
Bethpage in December to celebrate
his fortieth birthday. Tragically,
Gary never will be able to
make that trip, as he passed away
on Friday, October 2nd of a heart
attack.
When I learned of Gary's death
I, along with hisfamily and friends,
was devastated. Here was a man,
a truly courageous man, who for
the first time in a long while had
hope... had dreams and had a
smile again. I couldn't help but feel
as though his death was so unfair
and that he had been cheated.
When speaking with his aunt,
Annette Tucciaroni, a v«/oman who
opened her heart and reached out
for a helping hand for her nephew,
she was truly heartbroken. Yet this
woman, along with her husband
George, said that they were consoled
by the fact that Gary's life
was and had truly been turned
around when he received his
wheelchair and his cocnputer.
They told me that for the first time
in years Gary began to dream
again and to plan for his future,
a future he never thought he'd see.

Bethpage Day
A Five Star Celebration
Crowds of people took io the Community Park to be a part of Bethpage
Day '92.
By Aim
BETHPAGE DAY turned out to
be a day all the people of Bethpage
can be very proud of. The weather
was perfect! The hard work of the
people who organized the day, all
the wonderful people who supported
the efforts of the many
organizations who participated,
and the merchants and the Grumman
Corp. whose donations to the
raffle made the day happen!
BETHPAGE DAY was just a
dream 3 years ago. A day for ail
the people of Bethpage to meet in
Albei-tson
our beautiful park setting to share
and exchange the many ways so
many people contribute to make
our community the very special
place to live.
If you were unable to attend
BETHPAGE DAY 1992, you will be
given the opportunity to see what
you missed on the first Saturday
in October 1993. For the Town of
Oyster Bay issued a proclamation
declaring the first Saturday in
October officially BETHPAGE
DAY! See you next year.
The Central Park Hisioricaf Society sponsors of the Third Annual
Bethpage Day should be commended on a Job well done.
Much thanks to Danny Schiavetta (L) and L«^nny Mulqueen who truly
put their heart and soul Into the event.
