Bretton's Benefit Game Raises A Bundle as Fire Department Rise to a "GtilUng" Victory
What's played each year in
December, involves the entire
community of Bethpage and has
raised over $80,000 for the needy
families in Bethpage for the past
five years? You got it, the Annual
Bretton's Benefit Football Game!
This year's benefit took place on
December 13th at Bethpage High
School and raised over $20,000 to
help those less fortunate right here
in Bethpage.
Countless hours and many individuals
help to insure the success
of this game every year. But
perhaps no one devotes more time
and effort than Gary Bretton,
game founder, who spends
months preparing and endless
hours to insure that those Bethpage
residents who need help
surely receive it.
This year was no exception as
this game will help to feed many
families, buy gifts for children who
otherwise would not receive or pay
bills which without assistance
would go unpaid. Right here in our
town there are so many families
for one reason or another, are in
financial difficulty. A sick spouse,
the loss of a job or even the death
of a loved one can devastate any
family and the holiday season can
be a horrible reminder of the loss
and hardship that various families
are forced to deal with.
It is for these reasons that these
dedicated men take to the football
field and truly score the touchdown
of touchdowns for Bethpage.
This year's victors were the
Bethpage Fire Department with a
score of 24-14, as they provided
us with a riveting fun-filled and
exciting game. It seems to me,
however, that the true winners of
this game is the entire community
of Bethpage. We surely should be
proud that this community pulls
together and reaches into their
pockets to help their fellow residents.
Bethpage residents put
aside their persona! problems,
priorities and needs to help those

k huge American Flag filled the
sky and opened the 5th Annual
Bethpage Bowl In true style.
The winners Bethpage Volunteer Fire Department dedicated thesr
game in memory of brother fire fighter Craig Schullz.
