Board concerning the first
meeting of the Narcotics Committee

a cross section of the community
and was therefore moving along
rapidly. A membership committee,
consisting of'7 was
established, to enlist cooperation
and participation of local
organizations and also to explore
how similar Narcotics Committees
had worked in other
communities. Dr. Larsen
promised the full cooperation of
the school and staff. He said that
the most important factor is that
the committee be community
orientated and not school
orientated, because drug abuse is
a total community problem.
Next on the Agenda was Mrs.
Spitaliere speaking for a group of
mothers from Bloomingdale
School. She presented Or. Larsen
with a petition of 50 names and
requested Dr. Larsen and the
Board to approve a trip by the 6th
grade class to see a Broadway
play. After much discussion, the
Boards' decision was to abide by
Board Policy which prohibits
Broadway plays as a school
sponsored activity at the
Elementary School level. Mrs,.
Spitaliere said that she would
resubmit her request to the
Board when a full Board is in
attendance. The minutes of Nov.

what this could possibly have to
do with Algebra and how a
questionnaire of this type can be
distributed in the schools without
prior permission from the administration.

policy to be enforced. Dr. Larsen
said that the matter had been
investigated and proper action

the exception to 2 days prior to
the holiday. He said that this was
a problem for the school calendar
in future years.
A previous inquiry had been
made by a parent as to School
Policy or guidelines regarding
films, slides, etc. being presented
in trie classroom. The parent
referred to a particular film as an
example. Dr. Larsen said that
most films come from BOCES
and thai all other films, slides,
etc. are reviewed. At this point
Mr. Murphy, speaking for the
Bethpage Federation . of
Teachers, said that the School
Board should do something about
