Seeks Applications For
Senior Citizens
Jesse Harmon, Chairman of
the Oyster Bay Town Housing
Authority, today announced a
May 15th deadline has been set
for receiving applications from
local residents interested in
moving into the Town's Senior
Citizen housing project in
Plainedge.
The project for residents age 62
and over is located on Hicks ville-
Massapequa Road, south of
Merry Lane and will provide 36
apartment units for eligible
residents.
Harmon said the cut-off date
wasSiecessary in order to finalize
the list of those who will occupy
the project when it opens late this
summer. Harmon said that
priority will be granted to
residents of Plainedge.

The Plainedge project is one of
four senior citizen complexes on
the drawing board or in the
construction stage in the Town of
Oyster Bay. A fifth site, in the
hamlet of Oyster Bay is already
occupied.

Town Supervisor John W.
Burke announced this week that
the first meeting of the Town
coordinating Youth Council will
be held Tuesday, April 27, in the
Community Center of the
Syosset-Woodbury Community
Park at 8:00 P.M.
Burke said the Coordinating
Council will consist of four
representatives, (two youths and
two adults) from each of the 11
youth councils set up when Burke
established Nassau County's first
Town Youth Bureau last year. In
addition to the four designated
representatives, the presidents
and treasurers from.each youth
Council are also being invited.
"We are hopeful that this
meeting will allow an opportunity
for members of all of the councils
to get together and compare
notes," Burke said.
Burke said the Coordinating
Youth Council will meet approximately
once every eight
weeks in order to carry out
certain functions. Four of the
Council members (again two
youths and two adults) will be
selected to serve on the Advisory
Youth Board which was also
created by Burke.
The Coordinating Council will
include in rits activities the
following:
1 Coordinate youth service
activities conducted by local
communities, the Town and the
2 Review the needs of youth in
the Town and recommend
programs to the Youth Board in
order to meet these needs.
3 Provide advice to the
members of the Youth Board.
4 Stimulate the development
of local youth councils and
programs for youth. .
5. Provide liaison among youth
serving agencies.
6 Make special programs
available for youth, volunteers
and parents.
7. Assist with the development
