Caso Backs Grumman On F-14
Nassau County Executive
Ralph G. Caso declared last week
that he was prepared to do all he
could to aid the Grumman
Corporation in the firm's bid to
get more money for its F-14
fighter jet contract.
Caso pledged his support to
Grumman in a personal call to
corporation vice president John
Rettaliata. In offering his help,
Caso said that he was "deeply
distressed by the news from
Washington that the F-14 project
is in trouble."
Noting that 96 per cent of
Grumman's revenues for 1971
were from federal contracts,
Caso said, "The problems of
Grumman are problems for all of
us." The county executive then

Twombly Makes Bid
For Dem Committee
Citing what he called "a
critical leadership vacuum" in
the area, Gerard Twombly of
Bethpage, a 23-year-old pre-law
graduate of Hofstra University,
announced his candidacy today
for the post of Democratic state
committeeman in Nassau's new
10th Assembly District.
If elected by enrolled party
members in the June 20th
Democratic primary, Twombly
would be the youngest member
ever elected to the Democratic
State Committee.
He will oppose Albert Wahnon
of Bethpage, who is serving as
temporary A.D. chairman. Incumbent
State Committeeman
Murray F. Rosenthal of Plain-view,
who stepped down as A.D.
leader, is not seeking re-election.
"I am a candidate because
somebody has to act to oppose the
elements in the 10th A.D. who
continue to divide the party, to
set Democrat against Democrat,
who condone the existence of
paper committeemen and who
divert us from the important job
of unseating Richard M. Nixon
from the White House," Twombly
declared.
"The Plainview-Bethpage-
Farmingdale area should be a
source of Democratic strength. It
won't be while this leadership
vacuum is allowed to continue."
Twombly, who supports
Senator George McGovern for
the presidential nomination, has
been a a committeeman for five
years. He is currently a
legislative aide to Democratic
Assemblyman Arthur J. Kremer
of Long Beach.
He previously served as an aide
to former Rep. Allard K.
Lowenstein and was in
Mississippi last year as coordinator
of the Charles Evers
gubernatorial campaign.
FINISHING ON HER FEET in Adelpbi University's
54- hour dance marathon was 15-year-old Kathy Styne,
who lives in Bethpage and attends school at Holy
Trinity in Hicksville. With her partner, John Schmidt,
an Adelphi business major, she won the Marathon by
inspiring student fund-raising teams from Tri Delta
sorority to raise $2,500 to aid in the fight against
Muscular Dystrophy. In all, the Adelphi Marathon for
Dystrophy raised $10,000. Music was provided by 30
rock bands donating their time. Occasionally, Kathy
said, she wore earplugs, but most of the time she enjoyed
dancing. Tired, but with something left, she
finished on her feet, and after 54 hours, got back up for
a rousing bugaloo finish. Subbing for her sister, Kathy
turned the one week in the Bahamas first prize over to
Mary.
