Bethpage School District Thanks Residents for
Support of Budget
The Bethpage Board of Education and Central Administration would like to thank
the community for supporting the 201.0-2011 School District Budget through the May
18 vote. This budget, which represents the District's lowest proposed budget-to-budg-et
increase in 19 years, preserves all preexisting programs while enabling Bethpage
Schools to incorporate the new resources necessary to continue preparing students for
successful futures.
The Board and Administration applied many cost-saving measures when develop-ing
this budget that helped minimize the increase. Retirements and attrition, energy
efficiency, debt reduction, and restructuring of programs contributed to financial sav-ings,
as did the Central Office Administration's decision to take a one-year pay freeze.
"On behalf of the Bethpage School District, I extend our thanks to all the resi-dents
who came out to vote and, in doing so, have helped play an important role in
students' education," stated Superintendent of Schools Mr. Terrence Clark. "The pro-posed
budget balances the needs of all our students with those of the taxpayers and
the community."
The 2010-2011 budget maintains class sizes and extracurricular opportunities, and
additionally provides for expansions to the athletic program, technology upgrades, and
more. Among these highlights are the introduction of a JFK Middle School kickline
and High School weightlifting intramurals, new courses at BHS, continuation of TGIF
@ BHS, extension of the 21st Century Scholars Program into the elementary schools,
installatiop of SMART Boards in all secondary classrooms, and new textbooks.
Funding also supports-the inclusion program in grades K-11, cultural arts, field trips
and summer programs, and Academic Intervention Services.
The evening of the budget vote also featured Democracy in Action musical and
artistic performances from students representing each of the District's schools, held in
the auxiliary gymnasium. A book sale and art show provided additional educational
entertainment and refreshments were available thanks to a bake sale.
