New Island Hospital announced
today that it has become a member
hospital of Catholic Health Services
(CHS) of Long Island.
"For some time, the New Island
Board of Directors sought to align
the hospital with a system that would
recognize our obligation to meet the
needs of the community. Catholic
Health Services supports New
Island's mission to deliver quality
health care and remain a community-based
hospital," said Jack Howlett,
chairman of New Island's Board of
Directors.
As a member of CHS, New
Island Hospital can avail itself of all
the synergies and economies of scale
enjoyed by CHS member institutions.
"Our mission is to provide great
health care with compassion. Patients
can often be treated better in their
friendly community hospital, with
the same high tech equipment, but in
a much more comfortable environ-ment.
CHS is committed to enhanc-ing
our viability, as it would any
member of its Organization," said
Aaron E. Glatt, MD, president and
CEO of New Island Hospital.
Over the past few years, New
Island Hospital has achieved finan-cial
stability, while objectively
improving the quality of care,
enhancing service excellence, reno-vating
and modernizing, and even
adding many new successful clinical
services and programs.
"As a native of Levittown with
family still in the area, I have visited
New Island over the years and rec-ognize
firsthand the importance of
having a vibrant and viable hospital
in the area," commented CHS
President and CEO James Harden.
"Our Catholic health system is com-mitted
to continuing and expanding
the important medical services pro-vided
by New Island to the sur-rounding
communities that depend
upon it for care."
New Island Hospital is a 203-bed,
community hospital that provides
comprehensive inpatient medical,
critical care and surgical services. Its
Emergency Department cares for
more than 37,000 patients a year.
