Three Freeport policement "have earned" commendati'jiv^rom
the Village Board iof their roles In disarming and cajpturihg a
man who is alleged to have threatened an acquaintance'with a gun.
The praise went to Patrolmen Edward Miller, Benedcto Nicohrio
sn'cl Joseph Eeed.
muier had been assigned to check a complaint that there was
a man .with a gun outside tlte premises at 52 RusseU -Place the
evening V May 21. When Miller asked if he was armed, the suspect
denied it, but after noticing _a bulge in his right jacket pocket
the patrolman took a gun from him. The stranger ran east on RusseU
Place, with Miller after him. About 60 feet east, Miller fell on an
uneven .sidewalk md was unable to catch the fugitive.
Nicoliho, assigned to help, took Canine Corps Mike with hira
tracking the suspect through backyards. A radio message from headquarters
to his car informed him that a man-had been seen going '
