Seventeen Scenic Miles Of Navigable
Waterways Iruly Make rreeport
oating-rishmg Cfapital Ot ihe bast
By EDDIE VASIL
Frceport has one natural attribute which cannot be duplicated by any otlior community
in the world—and that is its fabulous, colorful and scenic waterfront.
Any city, town or village, in fact, even a potato farm, can be the location for a super-duper
shopping center, with bigger and better ones springluij up every year, but only
Freeport has Been blessed by Nature with 17 miles of waterways which cannot be built
anywhere ehu for all the money in the WAild, .
Many hiKhly-puWiclzcd shopping • nreas hnw Ihcir "Miracle
Miles" but only Freeport has its exciting "Naulical UVta" which Includes
every typo of nwrino aclivily known to man.
WoodcWft Avenue ia the heart ot "Nniitical MHe" which actually
covers every tool of the 17 milc--! of Frccporl %vn(erway.s. It
was so appropriately nnmod by Mis, Al "Aitio" Grovor whoso combination
of beauty and brains is n watcrlronl landmark.
Pieoport's Fabulous Waterfront has all the chBi-inot Sun Fran-vlsco'a
lamed "Fisherman's Wharf," Massaclniactts* Cape Cod, and

within the Shadows ot Manhatlnn's' sky.'scnipoi-s and right at iho
marine fi-ont-door of million^ of Long Islundure.
Go down lo tfjo waterfront on iiny wcok-cnd and you'll .sec nwrc
visitors and action than any ot Frecporl's .•ihopping arcns. And yet,
this hasn't even scratched the surface of Uie huge polciiljal.
Wilh the proper cO'-operation bet%voun Itiu wiiturfront bu.sincsi;-
nicn themselves and toetsvecn the waterfront cntcrjjri.^c.H unci lhi»
people and olficinls ot the Village of Frceport, and of cour.so, witli
tlw proper collective promotion, Frecport's Waterfront could he one
of the greatest ntlractions in America.
Freeport Ihon could truly be the "BwiUng and Fishing Capilid
of the En.<it!"
But what k needed to achiovc Ihi.t position?
First of course, sincere and complete co-operation bclwmi all
factions of the waterfront. Big and small enlerpriics .sliouhi put
aside petty jealousies and work logeUier to make this nnlural t-n-dowmenl
truly a blessing for all.
Mayor Bob Sweeney and the Village adniinlslralion recognize
the great possibilities of Frecport's waterfront and Uioy ore fully
aware of the lack 61 sufficient parking space. They recently took t.
progressive step to correct this Bituation by building a mucli-nocd<!4
purking-field at the intersection ol Ocean Ave, and Front St,
