^ o r t Strives For
H^w Recreation Center
- T, A'proposed location for a Freeport Recrealicln complex has been
rejected by federal officials, in replying to-an application made by
thff village for federal ^id. The site, Russell Place at North Ijong
Beach Avenue, was turned down because it is an area of relatively
high, median Income, Mayor Robert J. Sweeney reported to the
Village'Board of 'Trustees-
Other sites suggested for the
recreation center will now be re-icotwidered,
the Mayor said, since
the tcderal declsfon ii final and
the village cannot undertake the
lirojeelwlthout federal assistance.
It was estimated that the pur^
chase of tend and construction
I30s|s would amount to $2,000,000
to •i»,OM,«K>, the major part of
which would bo paid through
federal andt'or state aid.
