Republican candidate for Congress,
has characterized his opponent's
major campaign thrust,

for Lowenstein**, as a deceptive
tactic, perpetrated tt>

said that since the list was first
publish^ many Lent supporters
who objected to their names being
on the list complained to members
of Lent's campaign staff.

"The fact is,"said Lent, "That

Democrats, many not registered
to vote nor old enough to vote,
and a portion who are supporting

their names, nor would they consent
to it if ask^.

for public office should be
permitted to take license with
voters' rights of privacy,nor use
them falsely for the purpose of
manipulating p u b l i c opinion,"
said Lent.
Lent observed that while Mr.
Lowenstein has "claimed for
himself the martyrdom of a campaign
directed against him, he
has not been ba^fiil about viUigy-ing
me with a series of names.

STOLEN BIKE RING BROKEN
Police check stolen bikes
Acting on a " t i p " police retrieved bike from Milbum canal.
Freeport police have broken
a stolen bike ring that has operated
in the Village for many
months. Detective Bob Gordon
told the "Leader" that two juvenile
arrests will be m&ii^ m the
near fubire and investigation is
still going on.
At this writing about 26 bikes
have been recovered having a
value of $2000. The ring, which
operated in the Skiurth Freeport
area, specialized in stealing expensive
bikes and altering and
repainting most of them. Police
records show that 280 bikes have
been reported stolen in Freeport
since die beginning of the year,
it is hoped that some of the recovered
bikes will be returned to
their rightful owners t h r o u^
serial numbers and other identification.
Police Chief Elar pointed
out how important it is for
youngsters to take advantage
of the Freeport PoUce Department's
program for registering
bicycles.

presented the contract. Futuronics is one of 29 firms who have
located in the town's Industrial Park, Freeport, with the help of. the
town's Local Industrial Development Corp, and was the lowest ol
seven bidders, including Magnavox and Admiral.

will eventually bring 1,000 new

Futuronics Inc., recipients of
the award, will sponsor a 50
percent minority managed and
owned plaiu called Syncor Industries
whidi will employ 200 to
300 workers, mostly from Tilnor-ity
groups. Futuronics will divest
lis^f of Syncor after 5 years,
at which time the latter firm
will become entirely owned and
operated by minority group persons.
Mr, I'hilip fHishkiii,directoroi
marketing for i uturonics, said
the firm will beef up its present
70 man staff by about 200 workers
and farm out about 70^ of
the contract to otlier small business
firms on Long Island.
Roy Cacciaiore, consultant to
the Town of Hempstead on commercial
industrial development,
said yesterday that when he encouraged
the firm to move Irom
Port Washington last May to its
I- reeport location, he anticfpated
tJie awarding of the cootraci.
"I reepon is a central hub lor
over 250,000 people in Nassau,
and I expect most of those hired
will come from the 6 or 7 communities
surrounding Fre^xiri,"
Cacclatore said.
James Buckley, Conservative and Independent Alliance candidate
for US. Senate, is picttired above with, I. to r. Chsries Buddley,

The occasion was Buckley's appearance at the C of C luncheon
Thunday at the Sea Breeze Restaurant. More than 200 peopjiii,
many of ihero Republicans. Jammed Otto Kuntz' iandmark lestaurant
and acooided the candidate an enthusiastic reception which was only
part of his tumultuous 3 day visit to Long Island. Later that day
nearly 1000 people cheered wildly as Buckley appeared at a Conservative
Dinner at the Huntington Town House.
