Monday evening December 7th. Professor Leroy Ramsey met with Jomer
Rand of the Concerned Parents of I-'reeport in Rand's home. As a r e s u l t of
the mutual problems discussed, the following joint p r e s s r e l e a s e resulted.
Concerned Parents of Freeport
have expanded their efforts to
help bring atxtut racial peace and
tranquility in Freeport Schools.
After having discussed Leroy
Ramsey's Report on the Summer
Race Relations Project in
Freeport, the organization has
endorsed Ramsey's efforts to
help bring about racial calm to
the troubled cpmmunity.
In a meeting at Chairman
Jomer Rand's home Friday
night, Ramsey was asked many
questions with regard to what he
would do if called upon further to
serve in the capacity of race
relations consultant. Ramsey
outlined a program that called
for:
1 Meeting with individual black
and white leaders as well as with
whites and blacks who represent
no organization;
2. Meeting with groups of black
and white leaders as well as with
individual black and white
people;
3. Meeting with black and white
leaders Jointly, as well as with
white and black people who are
unattached;
4. Meeting with white and black
students and student leaders;
5 Meeting with teachers and
administrators; and
6. Meeting with civic and
business leaders.
In all of these meetings,
Ramsey, who is a Hofstra
University professor, said that he
hopes that the real core of
Freeport's racial problems will
be dealt with by all segments of
the Freeport community in the
hope that peaceful compromises
can be worked out. He hopes that
these compromises will lead to
some peace.
Concerned Parents have stat^
a wilUt^^pisess logo to the Board of
Ekiucatlon and to the Superintendent
of Schools with the
proposal. Mr. Rand said that if
Concerned Parents can further
the cause oi racial peace by
endorsing and supporting Leroy
Ramsey or anyone else, they
would be happy to do so.
