around crying "My brother's
under here! My brother's under

Predicting that taxes for next
year can be sharply reduced in
the Village of Freeport by the
elimination of every duplication
and overlapping of services,
along with coordination of Village
services, the (wo candidates of
the Good Government Party of
Freeport for Trustees in the
community's March Ifi election
today promised, if elecled, to

In a joint .statement issued by
Mark Hronich. a civil engineer,
and George Maislen. an attorney,
they declared that if the real
estate tax spiral continues to n.se.
"it won't Ix" long b<*fore no one
will be able to afford to own his
own home in Freeport
They noted that the tax rale,
under the present ad
ministration, has increased from
$2.20 to $5.ft4 "For the average
home assessed at $6,000," they
said, "means that the Village tax
has increased from $132 in 1962 to
$350.40 for the year beginning
March 1, 1971
"Since the tax rate has already
been established for the 1971 1972
taxable year and the budget has
already been adopted, it is obviously
impossible to reduce the
taxes for the coming year.
'However, by observing every

"In Mr Jackson and Mr Schiff
we find men of intelligence and
capability who. in our judgment,
represent our best chance for
bringing significant, immediate
change to Village Government
We are particularly pleased with
their stand.s on stronger code
enforcement, the development of
some kind of overall plan to meet
our housing needs, and, of course,
with their insistence thai there
must be full cooperation between
the Village and School Boards."
Mr Tauber slated that we are
